Vladimir Matyushenko will make his return to the UFC at UFC 103 against Cro Cop disciple Igor Pokrajac. "The Janitor" (what a crappy nickname lol) has gone 9-1 since his last fight in the UFC

Veteran middleweight Matt Lindland has signed a three-fight deal with Strikeforce, ending a short free agency period. Lindland informed MMAWeekly of the news Thursday afternoon.

Left out of Affliction’s doomed third event, “Triology,” Lindland’s contract was one of the few not transferred to the UFC following the end of the clothing company’s fight promotion business. Lindland was cut from the UFC in late 2005 when he wore a sponsor t-shirt not approved by the promotion. Once one of the Las Vegas promotion's top contenders, he has remained on rocky terms with president Dana White since his exit.

Lindland last fought in January at Affliction: Day of Reckoning, when Vitor Belfort knocked him out savagely in the opening minute of the bout. Prior to that, he dispatched submission specialist Fabio Nascimento last July at the now-defunct promotion’s first show, “Banned.”

Lindland said he expects to fight on Strikeforce’s next major card in October and named Jake Shields, Robbie Lawler, and Cung Le as possible opponents. Lindland and Shields were close to inking a fight at this Saturday's Carano vs. Cyborg, but concerns over the placement of the bout on the title heavy card scratched the deal.

“It’s a great match-up,” he said. “I think that one would happen.”

Looks like Don Frye is fighting Dave 'Blueberry Muffin' Herman

PRO MMA (promma.info) has learned from sources close to the bout that heavyweight prospect Dave “Pee Wee” Herman will be taking on MMA legend Don “The Predator” Frye at “Shark Fights 6″ tentatively scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas.
Herman’s last bout was a first round TKO over Josh Barnes at Bellator 4 back in May. Although Herman is still under contract with Bellator, they have postponed their second season until Jan. 2010. Herman is considered somewhat of an MMA oddity, having fought much of his career with virtually no formal training.

Herman currently holds a 14-1 record. With 11 (T)KO’s and 3 submissions, he has finished all of his opponents aside from his lone loss which came against Mu Bae Choi last January at “Sengoku - No Ran 2009.”

Monday, August 17 12:00 am PT: Debated pound-for-pound pummel artist Fedor Emelianenko -- who hasn’t competed since sending Andrei Arlovski into previously-undiscovered stage-six sleep last January -- is now being considered for a November Strikeforce debut, according to comments made by Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker to various media outlets over the weekend.

That would seat the Russian’s appearance comfortably between an October 24 UFC event in Los Angeles and any end-of-year programs they have slated. Coker also shot down reports the promotion was considering former UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez as an opponent, which should do wonders to instantly restore whatever credibility was lost when that rumor made the rounds.

Rodriguez himself either heard that drum or started beating it on his own, telling the UK’s Fighter’s Only that “I've had my ups and downs, but right now I am 240 and in five weeks I'll be 220 competing at Abu Dhabi…I'm in great shape and I would last longer than Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski combined.”

I was just going to ask what is up with Gomi since Affliction died, he was dealing with the UFC and Strikeforce before signing with Affliction, but it looks like Gomi is taking a break and having a kid this year, from his website or something

“The expectation of becoming a father is such an unique sensation and I want to make the most of any moment. Therefore fighting isn’t the goal for this year anymore,” he added.
