the most astonishing thing about brock isnt his power, its his quickness. never have we seen a near 300 pounder move so quick with so much agility. with only 4 professional fights its tough to say how good he really will be, but he has shown improvement every single fight. its easy to hate on brock, but i for one am a big fan. he brings a lot of excitement and buzz to the sport which is only a good thing. sure he beat the aging couture after long lay off but is he to be scrutinized for it? no, he beat who was put in front of him, and i know a lot of people here picked randy to beat himComment

For as crazy freaky athlete Brock is, he will always have cardio issues, he just is to big, to explosive, to hyped to not gas, it takes a lot of gas to move that body around
he was starting to suck wind against randy and randy was just pushing him into the cage and a couple scrambles, nothing to crazy in that fight, randy was on his way to making the big man gas before he caught a canned ham to the side of the head
brock is a beast and very dangerous, but if you can make this guy work and he will gas, the herring fight was not work at all, just riding on top of heath, heaths groud game has always been turtling and trying to scramble
not sure if Mir will make him work enough in his next fight and Mir has questionable cardio anyway, so probably another good match up for brock if he doesnt let Mir pull guard and snare him againLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Originally posted by DrEvil1996And also, say what you want about the heaveyweight division but what about the fact that there's a lot of discussion/arguing/hype for this fight a couple months in advance? I don't see the same level of discussion about GSP/Alves or any of the fights coming up after Machida/Evans, so at least there's a lot of fan interest here... And if they bring Fedor over, Fedor v. Lesnar will be a massive event.
GSP/Alves, Machida/Evans are way way better fights, but HWs always sell
GSP is the best fighter in the UFC, Alves is very dangerous
Machida and Evans is a legit undefeated fight, but Machida is 'dull' and Rashad cant really hype his fights, but on a technical level these 2 fights blow away Lesnar/Mir, if they even make it to the 2nd round it will look like a tough man contest if they stay on there feetLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

So if Brock clears the floor with Mir you still wont be impressed Rob? Even the best fighter gets caught sometime, especially early in his career. If he disposes of Mir its time to start recognizing for real.Comment

Lets look at Mir's last 6 fights since his comeback
Win Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira TKO (Punches)
Win Brock Lesnar Submission (Kneebar)
Win Antoni Hardonk Submission (Kimura)
Loss Brandon Vera TKO (Punches)
Win Dan Christison Decision
Loss Marcio Cruz TKO (Punches and Elbows)
So he has lost to Cruz and Vera who got ran off to LHW and hasnt even done much at LHW
Win over Hardonk and Christison, blah, a win over Brock who was 1-0 and a win over Nog who looked like a shell of himself, to many beatings from Fedor and even Tim, plus Nog might have had a staph infection, who knows if Nog will ever be half of what he was
Mir and Brock are 2 guys who are not top HWs and havent done anything to prove it
If Brock beats Mir, ok, what does that prove? That he can beat the same guys Cruz and Vera beat? and if Mir beats Brock is it that big of a deal? He already beat him in 90 seconds
The UFC champs are weak right now, its only 'big' because its in the UFC
Just look at how both these guys got there title shots, Mir got a title shot after subbing 1-0 Brock and Brock got a title shot after beating Heath, lol, come oneLast edited by Liquidrob; 05-12-2009, 01:53 PM.Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

and the funny part is, they thought they were feeding Mir to Brock the first time so Brock could explode on the scene and say 'Brock destroys a former UFC champ!' and than he got kneebarred
so than they cant take a step back, so they give him a guy with no takedown defense in Heath that Jake O'brien decisioned for a win than he gets a title shot against Randy, come onLast edited by Liquidrob; 05-12-2009, 02:14 PM.Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

I think if Brock wins this fight, Mir should ask for a rematch, so than we can have Brock/Mir IIILiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

So its Brock's fault that Dana wanted to give a title shot to his most marketable fighter? Dude worked Heath Herring.. Herring didnt have an ounce of offense that fight. Whether Brock rode him or not he deceivingly got that decision. Then he worked Randy.. regardless if whether you say Brock was getting winded.. he was never in trouble in that fight and Randy himself said after the fight that getting hit by those hands was just too much to handle. Of course Randy was going to do his best to contain him.. but it obviously wasnt nearly enough. You cant hate on Brock for winning fights, or for getting caught by Mir. The constant bickering about the lack of quality in the HW division isnt going to change the fact that Brock is the champion or that hes a beast of a man tho. We all know Fedor is the top heavy.. then arguably Barnett.. but its not even fair to say how Brock would fair against any of these guys because they aint never gonna fight.Comment

The only problem is the UFC doesnt have a good HW division, so the UFC HW belt (all 2 of them) are 2nd tier belts at this point
I think if Brock runs thru a couple guys in the UFC the next year he might even try and seek out Fedor, he obviously likes the comp, but to bad Dana wouldnt have it, wouldnt let Brock fight in another org/co-promote or treat Fedor like he should be treated, oh well\

Looks like Strikeforce is close to signing Roger Gracie, for you guys who dont know, Roger is probably the best submission grappling in the world
World champion submission grappler Roger Gracie and Strikeforce are close to finalizing the terms of a multi-fight contract, the promotion's CEO Scott Coker confirmed to SI.com Tuesday.
"Their lawyer is looking at a draft of what we're doing," Coker said, "but I think we're pretty much done." He declined to provide specifics of the pending deal.
Unbeaten in two mixed martial arts fights, the 27-year-old Gracie is arguably the top submission grappler competing today. In 2005 he captured the ADCC World Submission Wrestling Championships at 98 kilograms, as well as the tournament's prestigious open-weight division. In doing so, Gracie became the first competitor to win each of his eight bouts by submission.
His MMA debut came a year later and featured a first-round armbar against veteran Ron Waterman in Vancouver. Then in May of 2008, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Gracie finished aging Pancrase star Yuki Kondo, also in the opening period, this time via rear-naked choke in Tokyo.
Considering Gracie's level of experience, Coker said he plans on promoting the heavyweight in the Strikeforce Challenger series, which pits up-and-coming fighters and debuts Friday on Showtime, sometime this autumn against a to-be-determined opponent.
"We're going to see if we can create some awareness with him, see how he does fighting-wise, and take it from there," Coker said. "We're going to give him every opportunity to crossover into MMA. He's going to have plenty of time to see if he really likes to do it."Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings
