They should, Toney was still pretty well respected up until the back to back losses to Sam Peter. He's no longer one of the more relevant names in boxing, but I still think the pro boxer vs MMA fighter alone carries a lot of appeal.

Simply put, if White brings in Toney, he's a hypocrite.

He's talked shit about "freak show" stuff by bringing in guys with 0-0 MMA records. He said that about Herschel Walker and I'm sure he thought it about Canseco (don't remember if he ever commented publicly).

Bringing in Toney who has never fought in an MMA fight, a 40+ year old boxer...freak show.

It wouldn't be the first time hes done something hypocritical. But, bringing in Toney is no where near the equivalent of signing Walker or Canseco, it's pretty clear who has the better resume and who's better suited to make the transition into MMA. This is really no different from bringing in the best BJJ expert available and giving him a shot. Right now Toney seems like the only top level pro boxer who's honestly willing to make that transition, so why not, even if only for a couple fights. It's not like he's going to come in and contend for any titles.

lol @ comparing toney to canseco and walker. toney is a legit hw champ, albeit 44 years old. walker apparently has trained whatever but still is a football player first, and canseco...well yeah. remember what mercer did to big timmy a few months back?

As far as we know, Toney has no training beyond his boxing work. It's not far off from Walker who has trained his martial arts but only recently began MMA training.

I doubt the UFC will do fights like these at this point, to much risk with little to no reward, James Toney doesnt make the UFC a bunch of money and some HW might try and stand with Toney and than its lights out and the UFC takes a major hit with a 44 year old boxer beating a MMA fighter

You do it with a guy like Mayweather, Pacman, etc...not a Toney, Strikeforce would do it because they need something to grab attention, the UFC doesnt at this point

Im a huge fan of the MMA freak fight so im all for Toney (I know im late on this). I dont really give a fuck how much of a hypocrite it makes Dana, I just like fun fights. Toney vs anyone would definitely be interesting, especially Kimbo.
