I was watching a '98 Raw the other day and they said Simmons was only about 230 pounds in college.
What I find funny about Cena's criticism of the The Rock is that he's basically bashing The Rock for leaving a business with an astoundingly-high early death-rate to one that pays probably ten time as much and gives him ten times the popularity. Would that really be a tough choice for anyone?Comment

Great great college player. No way he plays in the pros, tho.
Loved him in early 90's WCW. Doom, Face turn, wrestling Cactus Jack, beating Vader to become the first African American World Champ (really is one of the great moments in wrestling)...then he goes to ECW and had a little stint there and BOOM...he's then Faarooq, seemingly with Max Moon's leftover gear.
I always thought he was a good militant black guy in wrestling.Comment

Rmember when Cactus Jack was training The Barbarian for his big title shot against Simmons? I think he had him flippong tires and smashing bricks and shit.
Yes, The fucking Barbarian vs Ron Simmons headlined a WCW ppv.
The Bill Watts era bombed at the gate, but holy shit did I love it. It had a great feel to it.Comment

Bill Watts WCW was pretty awesome.
Some great wrestling memories and matching in that era.Comment

stumbled across this last night...
a guy is making a list rating and reviewing every single wrestlemania match ever...all 296 of them.
heres the start of the list...its up to number 37 as of right now. impressive stuff to have an in-depth writeup for all of the near 300 matches.

Somewhat amusing Ahmed Johnson story.
We used to hang around the back parking lot of the Meadowlands after shows to watch the guys exit the building. Chris Candido pulls up in his rental, with Ahmen in the passenger seat. Ahmed had a small white towel covering his head, but it was obvious it was him.
Anyway, Candido pulls over to sign autographs, and about three dozen people are jockeying for position at the car window.
On the passenger side, a booming voice yells "I aint Ahmed Johnson, get the fuck out of here"...to the one fucking person who had "gathered" to meet him....a now crying hysterically 8 year old kid.
Stay classy, Ahmed.Comment

He was 6-0, 265lb defensive tackle.

I do like that the picture after his HOF video last night was of like a 55-year old Simmons. McMahon is such a petty bastard. His prime was in WCW/NWA, which even acknowledging seems to piss off Vince, so of course you can't use a picture from then. I'm sure if he had a picture of the old, broken down Horsemen in the WWE, he'd use that for theirs too....

265 isn't that small though. There's still a few 4-3 DTs under 290, and there were still a ton of guys in the 280s in the 90s. Remember Brad Culpepper? I'm not sure what the average DT weighed around the time Simmons would enter the draft (I'm guessing like the late 70s, I have only a vague idea here), but I can't imagine 265 would be that small back then. Unless he'd already maxed out his frame, which is a possibility. The height/arm length/quickness might have been an issue for him though.

Yeah, a small white towel is going to hide the 290-lb, barrel-chested, roided out of his mind Ahmed. Because mid-90s WWF was just hopping with fireplug black dudes.
He very well may have been around 230-240 by the time his career at FSU was over. Basically, the Brian Pillman story redux.Comment
