Sorta, but not really the same, because he was legitimately the biggest draw in all of wrestling in 2005-2006, and was expected to be a top guy right out of the gate and help them expand into Mexico and draw soccer stadium crowds.
His merch has sold pretty good, but he hasn't delivered in the ring, and the Mexicans don't seem to give a fuck about him. Part of the reason is he had cooled off in Mexico by the time WWE signed him. He was still a star, but not at the level of 2006. Part of the reason was also because they changed the gimmick. 'Mistico' was the star, not 'Sin Cara'. Stupid. It would be like being handed Tiger Mask in 1985, changing his name to 'The Jaguar' and fucking with his trademark outfit, and then wondering why nobody in Japan cared anymore.
Anyway, CMLL took another guy and made him into the new Mistico, and the fans have moved on. WWE blew this one bad. They should have purchased the rights to 'Mistico' from CMLL and gave the people the authentic Mistico from the start.Comment

Let's take the only unique looking woman on the roster and take away what makes her unique.
I'm sure Sara Del Rey is getting a tit job as we speak.Comment

heh, Vinnie Mac doesnt present the authentic version, he alters it and presents it as his version...

WWE also thinks it's fans are stupid and would understand his La Mistica finisher that got over like bananas in Mexico. You know the move where he spins around the opponents body, and lands in a reverse arm breaker? That was a submission move in Mexico, he would use the arm breaker to finish guys. In the WWE, he lets go of the arm breaker and pins the opponent for some reason (believe me, he didn't choose to alter that on his own). In an age where UFC outdraws WWE significantly on PPV, WWE thinks people don't understand what a submission is or why a reverse kimura would hurt.
So Mexican fans see their old star with a new name, new outfit, new mask, new finisher, and not doing most of his cool moves. Plus, the guy is clearly struggling with adapting to the new style, because in WWE EVERYBODY MUST WORK THE SAME OR THE DUMB FANS WILL BE DUMB AND GET CONFUSED OR SOMETHING. They also saw somebody else who was significantly larger doing the gimmick for months. And despite all of this, you have people in the company who blame THE WRESTLER (who at his peak drew more than just about anybody in the company) for not being able to get over. LOL.Comment

When Sin Cara was stinking it up against Tyson Kidd and Chavo (who was sandbagging him) every week, they asked him who his best opponent was, and promised sign whoever he named. He picked Averno.
They talked to Averno and offered him a deal, and I guess Averno got the impression that they were going to either ask him to work without a mask, or ask him to lose his mask to Sin Cara at some point, because Averno immediately went to the CMLL office and told them to book him to lose his mask, otherwise he would do it on an indy show for the highest bidder. He wanted to drop the mask before he got to WWE, because the payoff for a star of his caliber would be huge, while unmasking in the WWE = zero dollars. So he dropped the mask with little build (probably at a discount rate), and then....nothing. Sin Cara fails wellness, then Sin Cara blows out his knee, and....nothing. Averno never got the call, and it's probably been forgotten about.
They probably took one look at this short chubby guy who speaks no english, and changed their minds. The irony here, is without the mask, Averno has more heel charisma than anybody currently on the WWE roster.
This whole thing has been an outright disaster.Comment

kinda weird if they did that as a homage to the silva-sonnen fight since punk is a good friend of chael's.Comment

I think she blew her chances with that God awful segment on RAW last night. She's cute bouncing around in those short shorts saying nothing, but give her the mic for more than a minute and I put my DVR into fast forward overdrive.
Can't blame the WWE for running with this, but her 15 minutes are soon to be up.My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000
