Jon Jones is never, ever going to live this down. This was a massive mistake. I can't believe this was his decision. If you have ultimate fighter on your business card, you are supposed to show up and fight. And if you are the world champion, you are supposed to have the 'anytime, anywhere, anyhow' attitude.

The fans want to think their favorite, their world champion, is indestructible, and believe he can beat anyone. From a fan's standpoint, you want to believe your guy would fight anyone at any place at any time. Him saying no to a guy fans perceive as a middleweight isn't going to help his image at all.

I said three times in this thread that Jones should have taken the fight.

The issue, is Dana is burying Jones for forcing the card to be cancelled, which is a manipulative, cowardly cop out move. Typical carny promoter bullshit. Bury the talent because your shitty business plan finally bit you on the ass. This day was going to come, seemingly every show is patched together these days.

Play with fire, get burned, blame the match. Thats Dana.

Of course. I blame Dana more than I do Jones, but I still don't understand the logic in Jones' decision. He turned down a clear win/win situation and probably a lot of extra money as well. You're already training for a wrestler, arguably a more dangerous one at that. Chael is not in camp, would be fighting at 205 for the first time, so he definitely wouldn't be at 100%. It's not that drastic of a change for Jones and you're getting someone that wouldn't be prepared. Why would anyone not accept that?

Still, I will admit that Dana sound like a complete tool on the conference call. It's not Jones' responsibility to make sure everyone on the undercard is taken care of, that's Dana's responsibility. I also think throwing random fights together with a couple weeks notice is more of a sports killer than doing things the professional way and pushing it back. With that said the bigger risk is on the fighter who hasn't even been in training and isn't in fight shape, unlike Jones.
