Just the NHL trying to cash in on the super bowl weekend hype. In theory it is a smart idea, but it just kills the Winter Classic idea. Key word is CLASSIC. There is now nothing classic about it anymore, rather a watered down concept. The Winter Classic surprisingly still has life, and hasn't become something people don't want to see. The HBO series, the game its self, it is done very well, and so far, it has gone off without any real issues. A few warm days on game day, but nothing that ruined the foundation of the game.
But you start adding more games, it just makes it flop. I loved the idea Tor/Det have of setting up another rink and having a bunch of things going on. Hell any city could do it. Detroit was having two OHL games, two alumni games, and I believe the Michigan college hockey tournament was going to be there. Add in an AHL game, and you have a great weekend full of events, that sells the game of hockey.
