Aaron Curry FTW. Ran a sub 4.5 40 and excelled in just about every drill they put him in. He is versatile with the ability to play inside or outside in a 3-4 or 4-3. I think he will go to the Chiefs at number 3 in the draft.

I would really like to see the Lions take him. If we could draft Curry and sign Bart Scott, we'd be set at linebacker. All we'd need to do is take a defensive tackle at 20 or maybe with our 2nd round pick and our defense would drastically improve.

Obviously teams could still air it out against, but that would be a pretty good front 7.

Combine is overated. Its good in some areas but judging a player by the combine can be a big mistake . Anquan Boldin had a poor combine and slipped way to low , scouts just looked at his variables and let him slide.

Boldin (just an example) was pick 54 in the draft. Basicly because he ran a 4.7 and that wasnt considered fast enough . People look too heavily at the combine results sometimes and it bites teams in the ass.

Yeah, Colston was another guy who was "too slow", as was Terrell Suggs.

It seems like there are many guys who are undeservedly dropped in the draft rankings, and there are also a ton of guys who somehow have meteoric rises in draft stock due to the combine and never pan out (Justin Smith, Mike Mamula, JP Losman, Kyle Boller).

Its actually hard to think of a guy who became a high draft pick based on the combine and went on to have a good NFL career. Christian Okoye comes to mind, but not many others.

Mario Williams had great combine results and jumped up somewhat (was still gonna be a good pick anyways tho) and has the potential to be great.

But wouldn't you agree most of the time it is SMARTER to draft according to good combine results? It's just an extremely safer choice.

No i wudnt . Theres so much hype over the combine and people buy too much into it. The only real good thing about the combine is to see the smaller school guys like others have said. And even then id rather judge off tapes and 1 on 1 days that i have with the guy.

One of the best Draft masterminds around the league is Polian. Most people didnt like the Edgerrin James pick for example but the colts knew he was perfect for the system and went with him anyways. It was also said on the Colts americas game that coming into the draft Peyton was taking the colts were still unsure of who to take . They said the thing that made them take Manning above ANYTHING was his attitude and work ethic to learn off his mistakes not how fast he ran the 40 and looked throwing a 3 step drop in his shorts .

Anyone know how Macho Harris did today?

He must have ran decent, i didnt catch his exact time but he and the kid from OSU Jenkins both had questions of whether they had CB speed. They ended up saying Macho looks like he could play CB in the NFL and Jenkins would definitely have to play Safety.

That would make too much sense for the Lions. Not to bag on your team bro, but they never take the smart pick. I think your team is all but set on taking Stafford with the number one overall pick. Not only that, but do you really want to pay a linebacker QB money.

I cant wait until the new collective bargaining agreement is negotiated out. The owners want a set rookie salary scale for the draft....meaning, if your taken number one there is no negotiating, this is what you get. It would end the holdouts, end the enormous rookie contracts, and bring money back to the vets who deserve it more.

I am fully aware we are probably going to go Stafford with our first pick. I'd prefer Aaron Curry, Jason Smith, or Eugene Monroe but whatever. I just hope we can build up our d with our pick at 20 and our other day one draft picks.

Taking Stafford still doesn't make sense to me. Kiper can screw himself saying we need a QB to win, he's right we do. Unfortunately they Lions aren't going to be winners for at least 2 years and none of these experts get that. We're going to throw Stafford to the wolves and he'll probably get eaten alive, like Joey Harrington did. They need to go offensive tackle at number 1 or 20 and than take a QB next year.

It isn't like Stafford is a once in a lifetime prospect, guys like him with strong arms, yet are inconsistent come out every year.

The smartest thing Detroit could do (and it'll save them money) is to trade down. I'm sure some team will offer a decent mid-late 1st round and a great 2nd round pick.

Right now a QB is not the answer... We need O-Line then D-Line (Run defense starts up front)

I really don't understand the whole ''QB is not the answer.''

Detroit has two first rounders.

You take your quarterback now, preparing him to at least start in 2010, maybe even mid season, if he's a quick learner... You pick up a guy like Oher, who benched 21 reps, or even a guy like Andre Smith, if he falls that far. You can address two positions in the first round.. and if you can snag a guy like Andre Smith, due to his questionable behavior at the combine, you end up with the best quarterback in the draft AND the best offensive lineman. Now, I'm not sure if Oher/Smith will last that long, so this is just a possibility.

Or Detroit can do another Detroit move, and skip Stafford, and snag a bust like Josh Freeman with your 2nd first rounder, and set your team back for many years to come. Either way, Detroit must take a quarterback in this draft. You need a guy to build your team around - if you attempt to build your team around a veteran like Daunte Culpepper for the next two seasons, you could be hurting those players. A guy like Stafford should be ready to come in by mid season.

Matthew Stafford/Andre Smith? Looks good to me. Just cross your fingers Smith doesn't redeem himself too much before draft day.

Jenkins is a lock-down corner... and a ball-hawking safety so either position he's going to play great at.

I'd really like some of what McShay and these other clowns are smoking when they say he isn't fast enough to play corner. Malcolm is a bonified shut-down corner... the 40 really doesn't matter much at DB IMO, the cone and shuttle drills are much more important for determining whether a guy can play CB.

And all Michigan fans should laugh at this one... McShay raved about Morgan Trent... LOL

And LOL at Beanie dropping from running a 4.59... and Moreno doesn't get talked about dropping when he ran a 4.63.

I dont know if it was said in this thread or not, but I personally feel the Combine is a complete waste. When cones are going to tackle and I get to play football in shorts and a tshirt then the combine will mean something.

I think the biggest bullshit and Im sorry any USC boys but how Sanchez jumped in the boards because of a "great Combine" they said he made all his throws. Well my last stint at QB was high school JV as a freshman, but I could have made those throws. I mean come on lets look at the facts
1 - 50 people in the stands not 70 -100 thousand
2- no D to make a read and audible if he had to
3- no one covering his wide receiver
4- no shoulder pads, helmet or anything to "clog" his vision
5 - doesnt have to worry about a blitz or getting killed from the blind side.

I mean these are just some of the things

The bench press, yes, I want to know if my D or O line man can handle the weight and throw people around, do I care that my DT ran a 5.4
