Scott Pioli knocked this draft out of the park. I'm ecstatic.
Jon Baldwin, WR, Pitt - A - Arguably the 3rd best receiver in the draft after the big 2 at the top. Awesome measurables. Almost 6'5", 230, 42 inch vert, runs under 4.5. Had some issues with drops, but so did Dwayne Bowe. Great body control and can make the acrobatic grab, which is a plus for Matt Cassel's passes. Pick also gets a high grade because the Chiefs were able to move down and acquire a high 3rd round pick, and still select a supremely talented player to fill a huge need.
Rodney Hudson, C, FSU - B+ - Arguably the best interior lineman in the draft. Almost gave it an A, but he's a little undersized, and he was mostly a guard at FSU. The Chiefs are probably going to make him a center and fill another big need. Excellent technique and athleticism. Does a nice job cutting LB's at the 2nd level. Very smart, and a perfectionist...rarely made mistakes. Great fit for KC's running game. Reminds me of Will Shields. Won a shit load of awards. Team leader and won FSU's offensive MVP award...over Ponder.
Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia - A - 1st round talent in the 3rd round in another position of need. Good size, good strength, good speed. Athletic. Productive. Played standing up. Should be able to step right into the Chiefs' 3-4 opposite Tamba Hali.
Allen Bailey, Beast, Miami - B - Should have given him an A based on his physique alone. Makes Vernon Gholston look like a pussy. At 285 pounds, runs a 4.7 40. He's a prototype 3-4 end for the Chiefs, but is also athletic enough to play LB. Country strong and versatile. A solid pass rusher for the Canes. Could have given this an A as well, but dropped to a B because this pick reminds me that former #3 overall pick Tyson Jackson is on his way to being the biggest bust in Chiefs history. Maybe this pick will light a fire under TJ's ass.
Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado - B - I was surprised they went corner here, but it's a solid pick. The Chiefs don't have anything beyond Flowers, Carr, and Arenas, so it's a need. He has great size, can play press coverage, and jumps routes pretty well. Good timed speed, but doesn't always translate to the field. Great character guy. Some believe he was actually better than teammate Jimmy Smith.
Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa - A - LOVE THIS PICK. Could be the Chiefs' future starter. Been compared to a young Tom Brady. Great value. Good size, good arm, good accuracy. Winner in a tough conference. Came out of a pro offense. Kiper said he could be the best QB in the class. Matt Cassel, step your game up, or get the fuck out of the way.
Gabe Miller, OLB, Oregon St - D - Who? Yeah, I don't know. Former tight end, so he's a good athlete. Good measurables. Enormous reach, though. Would have liked to see a RT here.
Jerrell Powe, NT, Ole Miss - A - 2nd/3rd round talent in the 6th round? Fuck yeah. Massive dude, fills KC's gaping hole at nose tackle.
Shane Bannon, FB, Yale - C - 7th round FB, whatever. Never heard of him. But, he went to Yale, so he must be pretty smart. He's also 6'1" 270 and runs a 4.69 40, so that's nice.
I know that these drafts don't really mean shit yet, but it's hard not to get excited with Pioli running this team. Gone are the days of WTF picks with Carl Peterson. This draft fell perfectly for the Chiefs to fill needs with really talented guys. It was awesome. I haven't been this satisfied with a Chiefs draft in a long time. The future looks bright here in Kansas City.
