Look at the recent drafts, more and more european players are being drafted high up. Many times these players stay in their leagues to gain experience, and come back better suited for nba play.

Even so, Ak has played in the nba recently and played decently well. He's a great defensive presence, which is exactly what the wolves needed.

Forgot to mention that AK also won the defensive player of the year last year as well. He'll be able to guard almost any #1 option next year excluding points and centers.

when he left the nba, he was decent...i don't see how he got much better considering he's already past his peak athletically

1.euroleague is certainly not as good as the nba, but it's not bad
2. i think the style of play might suit kirilenko a little better

Kirilenko was on a very bad down slide when he left the league.. probably one of the main reasons he stayed over there even after the lock out. I think that is a big pay day for him but the pressure was likely on from CSKA who were likely offering him a massive amount of money aswell. If Kirilenko can return to his form of 5-6 years ago hes well worth that money, he was one of the most well-rounded players in the entire league, but he may be well past that now..

Those are hardly $10 mill a year numbers for a guy in the NBA much less in Euroleague play. I'm not exactly seeing how he's going to translate into a defensive specialist as the NBA game is much faster paced with much much much more athletic players, especially at his position. Even his numbers while he was playing in the NBA weren't the stellar. Not to mention the guy is over 30 years old with hardly any potential to improve from where he's at. So yes, he is more overpaid than Jeremy Lin.

If there was anything I've ever been anywhere near impressed with AKs game it's his 3pt shooting.


So please, explain to me how this 31 year old SF is going to play up to his $10 mill a year contract.

Edit: Much less keep up with guys like Lebron and Durant. I'm literally dying laughing at him "being able to guard any #1 option in the league."

Granted I didn't actually watch any euroleague games this year, I've seen him play in the past when he played for Utah with Boozer and Deron Williams. He was a solid player then but was never a star and that was years ago. If he were getting paid between 4-6 mill I'd have no problem with the signing but how can you say 2 years $20 mill isn't overpaying for this guy

I didn't watch him at all either but he was the Euroleague MVP and defensive player of the year last season so he couldn't have been too bad. They are overpaying for him but its only for 2 years and there isn't really much left out there if they were looking for a starting small forward. Plus he's white. #creamteam

Compared to what? Those stats easily justify a 6-8 million dollar contract. When you add in other factors like the defensive presence he'll give the team and fills a gap, how much extra is 2-4 million? And if AK does play out his contract, how much extra is that 4 million on an expiring contract.

I don't think it'll be hard for him to adjust seeing how he's already played in the nba for several years. Weak argument.

Being able as in he's the right shape and size to guard the #1 options if they're a sg, sf or pf. He won't be able to guard star points or centers like a Rose or Howard. He's being brought in to defend other teams best options. You could argue nobody can guard Durant or LeBron, they'll get their points one way or another. But, who else are the wolves going to throw on LeBron or Durant?

Combined with all the factors, the difference between 6 mill and 9 mill the first year is pocket change for the wolves. Second year, he's expiring and either lives up to the money, or becomes a huge trade chip that they can use to their advantage.

You can call it an overpay if you'd like, it works for their benefit either way.

I can understand the argument for a trade chip next year but the guy is not going to be able to guard any #1 option in the league. I doubt he keeps half the leagues starting SFs under 15ppg. The man is 31 years old. I don't see him sticking it out with the youth and athleticism in the league now a days, I think his game is more suited for euroleague play. Like I said before, sure he played in the league before but he wasn't a stellar player when he played then during his prime. He was a solid player sure, but never stellar.

And the difference between 9 mill and 6 mill could be another player on your roster who has more potential than AK. I understand they were competing with whatever euroleague team he was on with the contract but I think at some point they should have just moved on. Now they have $10 mill less in FA next year, and I doubt they get rid of him before then.



But hey, maybe I'm wrong and he goes off. We'll just have to wait and see

Grizzlies trade G Jeremy Pargo, a 2014 second-round pick and cash to Cleveand for G/F D.J. Kennedy.

If ever there was a trade that had no fantasy relevance, it's this one. Both players will spend most of their time on the bench for their new teams.

That goofy Suns, Hornets, and Wolves deal is also official now.

New Orleans trades Jerome Dyson to Minnesota, Brad Miller to Phoenix, acquires Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick from Phoenix, and Minnesota sends Wes Johnson and a first-round pick (lottery protected, from Memphis) to Phoenix.

This is a confusing deal but the bottom line is that Lopez could very well start at center in New Orleans (competing against Jason Smith), Warrick will be stuck behind Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis, Miller will retire, and Wes Johnson should see solid minutes at both wing positions in Phoenix (and could even start). It also means that Minnesota's David Kahn has essentially traded Al Jefferson for Chase Budinger, Malcolm Lee and some cash. Classic.
