Two offensive linemen, two defenders, and a rising junior joined four-star dual-threat quarterback Bucky Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) in committing to Virginia Tech over the weekend, according to multiple sources.

This past basketball season I saw Hodges probably have the best game dunk I've seen from a highschool player in years. He was floating around the baseline and the ball was reversed to his side. He had a lane, so he went up and one hand tomahawk dunked on this kid.....I was surprised, because he doesn't look like that type of athlete. I don't like him going to Tech, but I sort of expected it as most of our area kids go to either Tech and now UVA.

Linebacker Andrew Motu'apuaka (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem), a teammate of Hodges, is also set to play for Virginia Tech. Stanford and Utah offered the 6-foot, 210-pounder with 4.7 speed.

This kid is tough and is all over the place.

For those unfamiliar, a quick summary of the Waugh situation: Charles Waugh is an Ohio State fan in his early 30's who, in 2007, pleaded guilty to possession of matter portraying sexual performances by minors. On April 30, he sent a motivational message on Twitter to 129 people affiliated with Ohio State athletics, some of whom retweeted it. This drew attention to his behavior and the fact that he had previously went out of his way to meet up and take pictures with OSU athletes including Anzalone. On May 3, Ohio State sent a mass text to student athletes alerting them of the situation and instructing people to avoid contact. On May 4, Anzalone decommitted.

Land-Grant Holy Land had a pretty detailed analysis of Waugh's behavior and why it was problematic, while Black Shoe Diaries discussed the awkward zone around the NCAA's rules surrounding social media and how it helped lead to this.

Anzalone hasn't said why he decommitted, but it's hard not to imagine that this situation had something to do with it. Either way, we probably should stop paying attention to what 17-year-olds think, but it's part of college football, so it's never going to stop.

Anzalone's dad came out with some comments:

That was enough to spook Anzalone, who already had experienced some regret about his early college decision, his father said.

“You would think that these kinds of people would be kept at a distance away from recruits,” Sal Anzalone said. “The fact that he got close to recruits was the issue. Keep people like this away from them. I can’t be everywhere.”

Sal Anzalone urged his son to decommit after word began to spread about Waugh.

“Separate yourself,” Sal Anzalone said, “because you don’t want the NCAA thinking that you’re being influenced by this joke.”

“There’s a disconnect between what Alex thought was there and what is actually there,” Dr. Anzalone told the Eagle. “Something’s just not right at Ohio State. It’s not for him.”

Update:

"I want people to understand, I have no beef with Ohio State, at all," Sal Anzalone said. "My issue is not with Ohio State: It's a great institution, they have a phenomenal president, Urban Meyer is nothing but a class act to me.
"There's nothing wrong with Ohio State; it's a great institution. When I said there was something wrong with Ohio State, I was talking about the visit - there was something wrong with the visit, not with Ohio State."
Sal Anzalone said that Meyer called Friday evening, but did not wish to provide any details about that conversation.
"We can't implicate Ohio State for what happened (during that visit)," Sal Anzalone said. "That's wrong. That had nothing to do with the university itself. I don't hold them accountable; they're not responsible for what fans do; it's not their fault."
After saying Friday that Alex would no longer consider attending Ohio State, Sal Anzalone said the Buckeyes are back in the picture, but that his son - an All-State linebacker and one of the top recruits in the nation - needs time to reassess the situation.
"With all the craziness, we want to slow down the process, calm it down a little bit," Sal Anzalone said. "There's no reason we wouldn't consider the Buckeyes. We love Ohio State. The academic opportunities there are tremendous."

I don't blame him for being pissed... if this was my kid, I would be absolutely livid. That said, there was really nothing Ohio State could do about this. With all of the access random people have to players and recruits on twitter it's bound to happen almost anywhere. This guy saw Anzalone tweet about being at Eddie George's and went to Eddie George's...

That being said, from what I understand, Anzalone was wavering on his committment within 24 hours of making it. He has said that he has a tendency to fall in love with places after visiting. We're still in the ball game but frankly IDK what to think.

Really, this is not something I ever expected to hear about in recruiting. And given how much BS goes on, that's saying something.

Smith on picking Notre Dame:

Jaylon also told ESPN, "Every (Notre Dame) coach has the same stand character wise," Smith said. "Other coaches tell you what you want to hear, and I saw that with my brother" (his brother, Rod Smith, played running back for the Buckeyes). Notre Dame tells it how it is. You will have to work your butt off in the classroom, you won't be surrounded by beaches and strip clubs and insanely hot women (sad but true), and the campus is definitely not your traditional state school when it comes to partying. But the value of a Notre Dame degree is second to none, and for more mature, focused athletes it is undoubtedly the place to be.

Another big commit for ND

Notre Dame fans woke up to some good news Thursday morning after McDonough (Ga.) defensive end Isaac Rochell made it public that he had committed to Notre Dame.

"It is rare that you find a top school with the perfect combination of academics and football, but Notre Dame is one of those," Rochell told Scout. "I like the coaches, the players, their business school, and in the end, I just felt like Notre Dame was my home."

The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder picked Notre Dame over Florida State and held numerous offers. Ranked 61st overall in the country, Rochell is another talented defensive lineman headed to South Bend and is already excited about joining a very good class so far.

"I feel like the 2013 class can be very special with guys like Mike Heuerman, Jaylon Smith, and other top recruits already committed," Rochell said. "I feel like Notre Dame has all their ducks in a row to get where they want to go."

Rochell is the Irish's 14th commitment for the class of 2013 and fourth top 100 member in the fold. As a junior, he had 97 tackles and seven sacks last season.
