Meh, I don't really mind if they aren't "as good" as long as he eventually fucking tells me what happens. At this point he has me by the balls, so I'll keep reading.
I know it's gonna be a slog to get through but as long as book four has at least a couple of nice reveals by the end, I'll be satisfied. I'm as into the back story as I am the current story to be honest. He's created such a rich world that even the seemingly petty gossip starts to get interesting.
A good example of that is in A Clash of Kings, when the Reeds are telling Bran a certain story. At first I was like, damn, this is a pretty boring chapter, nothing really advancing the plot ... but then I realized what the story is about, and what it could imply about certain characters in present day ...
