Agent: Spain's Rubio To Enter '09 Draft

Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio will declare for the 2009 NBA Draft, according to his agent.

Dan Fegan told ESPN from Barcelona on Monday afternoon that he's confident that the guard will keep his name in the draft.

"Ricky will be in the 2009 draft," Fegan said of Rubio, who is considered the best young international player in the world.

He's special," one NBA GM told ESPN.com. "There aren't many kids you'll find at his age with such a terrific feel for the game. He just knows how to play. When he gets out there with players 10 years older than him, he just looks like he belongs. He'll have some adjusting to do in the NBA, but the truth is, he's as NBA ready as most of the college kids that are coming out. He's playing on a very big world stage."

Thabeet would be their best bet IMO. They could really use a big defensive presence at the center position. Griffin's not really the best fit there. Arenas-Young-Butler-Jamison-Thabeet wouldn't be a bad starting 5 to have.

butler/arenas/jamison have already said they dont want to wait on a pick to develop, and if they dont end up getting the top pick for a guy like griffin, then they would like them to trade the pick

No, not really. They're both raw as hell and will take time to reach their potential, which is exactly what you said. Thabeet may be more "filled out" but hes also 3 inches taller. Ive always said Thabeet could come to the NBA and atleast be a good shot blocker.. but thats where id draw the line. Hes still fragile as hell. Furthermore.. McGee is a better offensive player than Thabeet.

As a Wizards fan, I wouldn't mind Rubio, Thabeet, Lawson or Griffon.

If we draft a PG in the case of Rubio, we can always push Gilbert to the SG spot.

I mean Gilbert always wants the ball in his hands anyway, so may as well. Or Rubio/Lawson could back up Gilbert, cuz he is injury prone and bound to go down again.

The Wiz would be better off with Thabeet. If he can only bring defense and rebounding, that's all the Wizards starting lineup needs. You already have Arenas, Young, Butler, and Jamison, you don't need any more scoring options in the starting lineup. They should draft Thabeet cause they need defense and rebounding really bad.

If they get Thabeet and some players through free agency, I could see the Wiz being good for awhile.

IMO it's just his combination of average athleticism combined with superior handles, passing and bball IQ. For those same reasons, the Nash comparisons do apply as well.

SInce Rubio is 2 inches taller than Nash at 6'5, I went with Pistol. I'll agree though that he doesn't project as much of a scorer. I just see the same flair for the game from him though. The behind the back passes, the crazy dribbling, the incredible court vision, etc.

A taller version of Steve Nash is prob. his closest comparison.

Exactly. Thabeet will step in and be a solid defender from the get go. Which is exactly what they need from a center.

Griffin doesn't help them at all. They don't need another scorer, and he's not a defensive player.
