Just wondering how many people are on the "Miggy wins it if he gets the Triple Crown" wagon.

Something about the fact that Miggy only has 3 HR's against LHP really bothers me for some reason.

I need to think about this. I am one of those that still factors in team success to some degree, so if the Angels make the playoffs Trout is my pick no matter what Miggy does. If the Tigers make the playoffs or they both miss, i'm not sure, especially if Miggy wins the triple crown. I'll have to let the dust settle and look at the final numbers.

Edit - Ted Williams won another TC in 1947 and came second in MVP voting to How DiMaggio. But his streak was in 41.

Their hitting is a wash. However Mike Trout is an outstanding defensive center fielder and base runner. On the other hand Cabrera is brutally bad, possibly the worst third baseman in baseball. Again it really isn't close.

The problem with Miggy imo is that last year he had a better season, his team clinched their division and yet he wasnt even the best player on his own team.

Meanwhile Trout has set the world on fire as a rookie becoming their best player, all while playing 20 fewer games.



Miggy is the ol' reliable MVP candidate while Trout is the new shiny. Miggy will get other chances, on the other hand we are not guaranteed another season like this from Trout.

I have a major problem with just slapping WAR on the page and wrapping up the discussion. WAR is fine, but lets remember that part of the formula has subjective computations up to the creator, and is constantly being tweaked. There are also two conflicting versions calculated differently.

Here is the thing with WAR. If B/R or FG didn't publish WAR until the season was over, people would have a very hard time deciding whose WAR was higher than whose based on statlines. Too often it's a crutch.

I'll go with Trout. Great defense, great offense, nothing not to like about the kid. Miggy is having a good season too, no doubt about that, but he doesn't bring the complete game like Trout does, and the ability to change the game with his bat AND glove.
