Eli Manning has won two Super Bowls on freak catches. I take those two Super Bowls over the SBs my Eagles didn't win.

Trent Dilfer was never close to elite.

He was a pretty lousy player on TB early in his career (before losing his job to SHAUN KING), and then was mediocre at best with Baltimore. The year the Ravens won the Super Bowl, most people don't remember this, but Trent Dilfer lost a camp battle to TONY BANKS, who started the first 9 games. At the end of his career, as Dilfer bounced around between Seattle & Cleveland, he was decent in his role as gatekeeper/gritty veteran backup leader guy.

So, you are going to tell me that a guy who lost jobs to Shaun King & Tony Banks was elite, because in one game, his all time defense beat the living shit out of the Giants and he managed to throw a bomb to Brandon Stokely? That's your argument?

obviously football is a team sport and blaming Dilfer for TBays woes is dumb. He became a veteran, played within his strengths and lead the offense in Baltimore to a Super Bowl...yes I know the defense was great but that still doesnt detract from his efforts..you dont stay a starter in the NFL just because you didnt ef up too badly. You have to produce and he did enough to win the ultimate prize = he is elite...dont forget; he did win a game even though the other team stole his playbook and knew all his plays.

I think Eli is an elite QB, but not because of the first SB win.

I am far more impressed with the fact he won three tough road games in those playoffs, which while easier to do than in the past, is still a tough accomplishment (for example, Drew Brees has never won a road playoff game, and until he does, he is a notch below the top level QB's imo).

With that said, there are several QB's with zero SB wins that I would take on my team before Eil, despite the two rings. But yes, he's easily an elite QB.

What if David Tyree doesn't trap that hail mary on the side of his helmet? There was nothing inherently clutch about that play, he just heaved the ball up in a situation where an INT was no different than taking the sack or throwing it away. Is he still CLUTCH if he's 1-1?

If anything, it was Tyree who made the clutch play.

If we start playing the "what if" game, what if Tom Brady doesn't get bailed out with the tuck rule or his kicker misses the FG's that won their Super Bowls? I bet if we start digging, a lot of players that are held up as elite were just one or two critical plays (that they might not have even been involved with) from being thought of as only good QB's.

So if the Raves had lost that game, say, a 50-49 shoot out where Matt Stover missed a PAT as time expired, would Dilfer still be "elite"?

Someone asked him if he was elite, he said yes, than proved it.

Qb doesnt stay alive on that play to make something happen, it doesnt happen = Eli elite QB..He also threw the game winning pass

I don't understand this age-old debate about how x/y plays like an elite player game after game then some fud always says they haven't won the Superbowl so they aren't elite, then everyone's talking about whether a ring makes someone elite (which it doesn't). We all watch football games, it's truly not hard to evaluate a player, especially a quarterback, if you have just a little bit of a football brain. And for the record, I'm not saying you do not.
