[ALL] Anyone else getting bored of the same old games??

I mean the 360 has been out 5 years now. I am getting a bit tired and not very excited about playing ANOTHER Call of Duty, Fable, HALO, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, BioShock, Final Fansty 1000, Splinter Cell, Ratchet and Clank, God Of War...the list goes on an on. (without even mentioning music games)

I mean most of the sports games have basically stayed the same this whole generation. They tweak them year to year with improvements and new problems.

When is something new going to come through?? I see why they are going to motion controls b/c the games are getting stale.

I mean the games I enjoyed this past year....Heavy Rain, Red Dead, Borderlands, Batman, Dragon Age (little late to the party on this one). I will say Heavy Rain was a really cool game and cool concept. Kudos to the developer.

The other games are ok but they are basically the same shit.

I just look at the holiday game list and nothing really stands out....mostly sequels. I look forward to Castlevania, but we all know it will probably flop.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, sure it will be cool but come on, we played that game 10 years ago.

I am not really sure what to buy this Holiday.

Thoughts? AM I alone?

FPS are FPS no matter how you slice it, its all the same shit.
RPG is where i feel the most disappointment because they present these RPG (like DA, ME and FO3) as games where choices matter. And you have this vast array of choice, but in the grand scheme of things, they really dont mean shit.
the difference between good and evil in these games is next to nothing as far as how a event will play out. There are differences, sure....but not to the expectations I have in these kinds of games.

sports games are the worst imo. the sports havnt changed so the core game expectations are always gonna be the same. imo, the biggest changes should be in the depth and excitement of the experience. And this is where these games have truely failed. Some games, after 5 years, still havnt even mastered the gameplay mechanics to give the user the feeling they are in a real game....like football for example. APF2k8 made me feel like i was replicating what i would see on a sunday afternoon. Madden/NCAA dont offer me that same feeling so those games get boring real fast.

open world games are alot like RPG's in the sense they give a player alot of free roam ability to explore and develop a character. But RDR is just GTA4 in a new package....just like Saints Row or even Borderlands.

It seems like next gen is all about better graphics and no developer has had the balls to create an experience that is different from the cookie cutter template that has been used before.

Games are just eye candy and nothing more.

As stated, FPS games are all the same. Slap on some new skins, build some new maps, change up the weapons.......but at the end of the fucking day it's no different than any other shooter out there.

Sports games have taken a dive this generation. EA Shite just releases the longest fucking list of features in all their titles but you could find issue/bugs/bullshit with 75% of what they claim is in their "new" game. It's gotten old for me, it's just the same fucking garbage and I'm absolutely no longer a yearly buyer of their sports products any longer. I don't give a fuck if Madden 12's franchise mode is the cat's ass, I guarentee you it only goes half way, while it's superstar mode will still fucking suck, it's online franchise will still be a fucking mess and the gameplay will fail to address the most obvious of fucking flaws. MLB the show is no different, people harass EA about slapping on a new cover and releasing it as a new game........jesus fuck could this ever not be true for MLB the Show. 09=10. It's pathetic. They just slap some funny Kevin Butler commercial with a roster update and people fork over the dough like fucking tools. I'm not going to be one of those dumbasses any longer.

So over buying games that are not worth it anymore.

Unfortunately, the teens of today didn't play the games of yesterday, and the games of yesterday worked on us once upon a time.....so why wouldn't they work on them? Games have become no different than the Movie industry. It's fucking trash.

Give me the days where video games were obscure and not part of pop culture, please and thanks.

I don't see the point in renting a game for 13 bucks, when I can buy it off ebay for like 50, play it for a month, then trade it in for 35-40.

I see it as 15 bucks for a one month rental, or keep it if i want to keep it.

Game Fly's good, there's a lot of free trials lying out there. But, you're in Canada so I don't think it works.

Yeah not really a discussion on buying or renting..........just the quality of games and enjoyment from playing them. I mean I havent grown out of it...I play NCAA Football like a madman still b/c of the awesome Online Dynasty but I like other games and want to experience other stuff........which doesnt seem to be happening. It is sequel nation.

I've bought 5 games since I got my xbox. NHL 09 - 11, Top Spin 3 and Tiger Woods 10.

Only twice this gen did I feel I was playing something special. Gears of War 1... Portal.

Halo 3/ODST/ COD were alot of fun but yes "same ol same ol".

This is the worst gen for sports games. Exclusive licensing killed the genre.

RPGs imo have been dead for ages. Mixing them in with shooters is a great concept but they take a bajillion hours of gameplay but much of it is boring and complacent.

Games like Bayonetta still feel like they are based on 1980s button mashing.

Fighting games SUCK. SF4 is combo whoring and MK died of repetitiveness.

Never been a fan of racing games but Midnight club was my fave but it was a shell of its original game and was way too difficult. I see the same said about many other games.


We need another soulcalibur , Twisted Metal , Halo , FF7.
Some genre shifting game thats actually fun and easy to play , but challenging for vets.

Did you stop to think maybe you enjoyed the games you did because they were just great games? None of those you listed, other than Heavy Rain, brought anything original to the table. They were all fantastic games though.

"Hot Pursuit will be cool but we played it 10 years ago", um, people have been playing the Dragons Age style of RPG for a lot longer than 10 years, but that didn't stop you from enjoying it, did it?

I guess I would like to know what kind of innovation you are wanting to see. Look at the variety of games that are out now. What can be done that hasn't been done? What do you suggest a developer do to change up the FPS experience? What can a developer making a racing game do that hasn't already been done?

Which is what I mean. OP was about getting tired of the same old games, when it's more so getting tired of bad games.

If y'all are getting the "same old" feeling with everything you play, I think it's more along the lines of growing out of gaming. I agree that there hasn't been much innovation recently but that doesn't mean the quality of games coming out has gone down.

We've been getting "same" games since I was a kid. How much different was Bonk from any other Mario game I played on NES. Running around, hitting things/squashing things, climbing ropes. "Sameness" is what we like, when done right.

agree totally. i got burned out playing the same ol shit and havent touched a video game in months. a few days ago i downloaded dead rising case zero and really enjoyed it so im most likely gonna buy the new dead rising. first game ill have bought in close to half a year.
