Before the knee injury, was Daunte Culpepper a possible Hall of Famer?

dave seems to equate not being a HOF'er to being a worthless POS.

It's the highest standard we have to rate a player, it's not an insult to say these guys come up short. Not every (really) good player is HOF worthy, and that's OK. I think all HOF's put in far too many players.

Culpepper was probably the hardest qb to physically take down I've seen in recent memory. He'd shed 6-10 sacks a season from guys drilling him full in and Culpepper shrugging it off .

That's the only thing I have to say about him. If you can get into the hall of fame for being kinda tough to bring down I guess the answer is yes.

If Culpepper could've continued at that pace before blowing his knee out I think he may have had a case right now. But that can be said about a number of guys in the NFL, injuries and cut short careers cannot be ignored.

Even if Daunte Culpepper had future hall-of-famers Randy Moss and Cris Carter at his disposal for the rest of his career, he'd probably still not be a borderline hall-of-famer. Maybe a fantasy football hall-of-famer, but that's about it.

Also, how the fuck did Culpepper get on the cover of Madden in 2002 on such an average/below-average year?

He was already 28 when the injury happened. And he was behind what Manning and Brady (HOF locks) had done by the time they turned 28.

Yeah it's possible he'd come out and beast every year, win 4 SBs or something. Who knows.

When the Hall of Fame becomes the "Hall of You Had a Pretty Good Career, Get in Here!", then yes, absolutely.

He has a good first 5 years. But the entire preriod isn't truly outstanding as a whole. As others have said, only one of those years was fully standout. Two were good, well above average. And two below average years. One outstanding season does not get you into the Hall of Fame. Not by contemporary criteria. When the change that so that one good year gets you in, the Hall is going to get pretty fucking full.

dave, to the point of his career that you have included, he has two pretty good years, one or two other good years, and some trash. He was not even close to being a possible HOF'er based on that information.

Saying he could have went apeshit later on and won a bunch of SB's means nothing, because we can use that lip service for anybody. It's fantasy land. And based on his career to that point, Culpepper was hardly a threat to do that anyway. He was a nice player. Nothing more. A couple of big years does not make a potential HOF'er. The question is outlandish, that's why the vote is so skewed.
