PPV as we know it will never survive long term, especially at current price points, and especially as consumers become more savvy in illegal streaming.

My prediction is PPV with a middle man disappears, and the big players like HBO Boxing, UFC, & WWE host shows directly to the consumer via their own networks or websites. This will allow them to avoid the 40/60 splits they pay to cab/sat companies, cut the price point to something far cheaper, and keep the entire rake. Everybody wins, and the hope would be that instead of relying on illegal streams, that people will purchase the shows legally at the lower price.

Whoever does this first, the others will follow. UFC has dipped their toes in the water, and WWE is toying with the idea of showing their PPV's for free on their proposed pay network. The model will change, we just don't know exactly how.

Illegal streams suck though. I'm as cheap as they come and I would rather drop the $50, if it's a good fight. No one wants to watch a fight on a grainy stream that's prone to cutting out.

The way the content is delivered may change, already is a little, but what you laid out is still a PPV model, aside from the premium subscription.

honestly If Dana does 6 ppvs- Superbowl weekend, Memorial day weekend, July 4th weekend, The August Sports Drought, Weekend before Thanksgiving or a ppv on Thanksgiving week, End of The Year- This would easily make more money- Make July 4th and end of the year a 2 title fight ppv and make the other 4 1 title with a high contender fight and notable names.

Fox needs 5 shows thats it. Make 2 of the shows championship shows and make the other 3 stacked with relevant fights and notable names.

Use strikeforce as a developmental organization- make the comain events and mainevents of strikeforce shows Top 10 fighters and throw in a title fight once a year as in a UFC title fight just to gain interest. However before you do this make a crossover ppv show where the champions of the UFC fight the champions of Strikeforce- not counting the welterweight champion- Pop this on 4th of July weekend with Bendo, A Silva and Dos Santos meeting with Rockhold, Melendez and Cormier.

Also use Strikeforce for the women's mma but, at least once a year for the next 3 years put Rousey or the champion on a ppv in the co main event.

In a perfect world this happens, in a DW world- It will never happen. :

I can understand the desire for fewer shows, but to cut their PPVs in half is overdoing it. Sure, buyrates could be bigger since there aren't as many, but there's no way 6/year will be as profitable.
