If people don't care about the rematch occuring because of the playoff there would be no possible logical way they would have an issue with the winner of the game that resulted from that playoff rematch scenario.

You are arguing that if there was a playoff in place we could still see LSU top the AP poll if they lost at any point. In CBB, where there is a playoff, the winner has never not stood atop the AP poll.

So, lets say in next year's preseason AP Poll, we have Oregon #1 and Arkansas #2. Then, at the end of the regular season, those are the two teams we have facing off against each other in the title game.

Would you then conclude "we don't need to have a regular season, we could have picked the title game participants at the beginning of the year and then just played one game to determine this year's national champions"?

I don't understand this omnipotence that the pollsters seem to suddenly have.

No one said it "couldn't happen".

We said it wouldn't be a "major issue" and would more than likely not even happen let alone be a "major issue" as you stated because no one would feel Alabama was underserving of 1. The rematch and 2. The title if they went through a playoff to get there because we see rematches in other sports and no one gives a shit, or cares, or sees it as a "major issue" because of the playoff format.

Because the AP Poll is like the People's Choice Awards if you have a playoff? Thats kind of like saying "this will work 99 out of 100 times, but since it might not work we shouldn't do it".

They should also do away with the NCAA Basketball tournament, too, because its conceivable that the AP could still vote Butler as the national champion after they score 40 points in the title game?
