Dallas' problems go much deeper than Phillips.
If anything, I think the problem is Phillips isn't really the coach. Jerry Jones is.
I would be surprised if Jones isn't making playcalls from the booth.

Well no shit, but this was the best move for the team. The Cowboys problems are mental, and whether intentional or not, Owens was the source of those problems.

We still have a lot of talent and can still pick up more, this won't hurt us as much as any other team, I see this as an improvement.

No the problems on this team were terrible offensive gameplanning and handling of personnel.

POS Garrett is abysmal at half time adjustments and had no clue what to do with 3 very good running backs. That was THE starting point for problems on this team. Once that happens you have people questioning there roles and the plays thats when you get rifts and you start the TO shenanigans.

Bottom line NOW the Cowboys have major problems with talent at WR. Roy E is a "good" WR but 2-5 we have nothing but a stack of guys who can cant get open consistently((in garrets 15yd+ offense)) and none of which are fit for the no.2 role. We also dont have a no.1 pick to trade up for a top flight WR in the draft.
TO/ROY/Witten/Barber/Jones/Choice..... thats a wealth of talent and Jason had no clue how to get points from that crew. You think taking away the no.1 threat is going to help that ?

The ONE thing that was 100% with the coaching staff was Wade Phillips when Romo got hurt. That defense played absolutely lights out when Phillips took control and carried that seriously underwhelming offense all the way through the season.

Romos regression , his "rumored" piss poor practice habits , the fact noone reigns him in in during the week , the fact our playmakers TO/Felix were invisible in the first half of many games after huge plays is directed straight at Garrett. Thats what he was brought in for. Mentor Romo and be creative with this talent. He has failed at both.

People can jizz all over there screens when ESPN is on all the want but fact of the matter is this came down to Garrett or TO and there chemistry only. Unless Garrett got signed as a HC it was going to come down to JG or TO.

Bottom line JG needs to get over his pathetic personal issues and handle this offense better. If he doesnt DAL wastes another year and new coaching staff will be brought in.

Good point. I don't get why people want to put the blame on Phillips...he's one of the few guys in the Dallas organization who actually knows what he's doing. Jerry Jones keeps bringing in new offensive weapons, yet the Dallas offense gets worse.

huh? Phillips is a defensive genius not an offensive genius. He is a players coach and doesn't have the personality to coach all those egos (especially TOs).

Patrick Crayton is a decent number 2 wide receiver and can be good if he would focus on catching the ball before running with it. I also believe Austin can be a fantastic slot receiver. Don't forget that Witten is technically our number 1 wide receiver. We also have a plethora of running backs and felix jones will be a viable option when he is put in the slot.

TO's biggest problem is that he is the Milton Bradley of football...except more durable. He takes every bit of criticism or suggestion that he doesn't like as a sign of disrespect. I don't think anyone has a problem with a player giving his opinion either in front of or behind closed doors but the problem with TO is that he doesn't have any sense of how to maturely/effectively express his opinion. it always comes off as whiney/immature/standoff-ish/aggressive. Until TO learns thathe's going to have a lot more short tenures on teams. Will he ever learn it? Doubtful, but some team can hope. Frankly though TO, who is 35, comes off as a whiney 20 year old in a lot of what he does. He needs to adjust his personality and frankly start acting his age.

Honestly, I think Owens is hard to predict in that regard. Winning obviously means a lot the guy, but so do statistics (it seems) and money. I don't know that you can say he definitely cares more than winning than anything else at this point. It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't know it to be the case. As much as winning a SB would mean, one last big payday this late in his career might be very very tempting.
