Among the many compelling nuggets in Peter King’s MMQB column is a disclosure that Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler had asked to be traded weeks before the team tried to comply with his request.

That’s right. Per King, Cutler requested to be dealt after quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates bolted for USC.

So the fact that Cutler is claiming outrage in the wake of the recent near-miss effort to give him what he wanted could be part of a broader plan to get out of Denver.

This way, he looks like the victim instead of the villain, and perhaps the media and the fans will put enough pressure on the team to force the front office to find a suitor.

Regardless of what ever the fuck happened here, I see the Josh McDaniels era in Denver starting as a huge clusterfuck.

This guy to me currently looks to be showing his immaturity and cockiness with how things have gone since he has taken over, mostly coming in the form of who they have released, the free agents they have signed (did they have half the fucking list come in and visit?? ), and now Cutler...whether he asked initially to be traded or not.

I have nothing against the Broncos, in fact I enjoy watching them as opposed to other teams, but I think letting Shanahan go was a mistake (after all, they still have to pay him something like $20 million to sit at home !!!!). I see Josh McDaniels as a humongous failure on the horizon....worse than Crennel or Mangini.

Cutler needs to be traded somewhere, this relationship between him and McDaniels is already screwed, and for someone to say that Cutler can mend ties and all that crap, even when he asked for a trade weeks ago, is stupid.

He needs to go somewhere, TB - DET - somewhere who needs a QB and doesn't mind giving picks up for him.

The Lions could give up the 20th pick and some other picks for him, the Broncos would jump at that i would think.

That's my main concern/issue. Sorry, but regardless of the fact he got fired or not, Shanahan knows what he is doing more than McDaniels. I think McDaniels dumping half the roster, signing a bunch of 2nd and 3rd tier free agents, and potentially trying to get "his" QB Cassell (who we all agree is no Cutler!) shows his cockiness to believe he can rebuild everything and make it better from his own slate. IMO, he needs to take a page from Mike Tomlin and John Gruden when he went to the Bucs.

...outside of being an OC for a couple years on one of the most talented teams and coaches, McDaniels has zero experience. He also doesn't have Pioli's player evaluation skills to ride the back of.

Sparano and Smith at least had many many years in the league doing various duties. I think some of the teams this year who hired coaches believe they are all going to turn out like Sparano and Smith (or Tomlin of the past 2 years).

Still tho, you can't condemn the guy a couple weeks into his job.

It's his team, let him build it to what he wants to do. If it fails, then you have validiity to say he's an immature cockfag.

Look at any team that has succeeded in changing and you'll see the #1 focus has been the draft, not tons of free agents you thought that did solid on other teams last year...or trading a Pro Bowl caliber QB for a one year wonder you coached.

How many free agents has Parcells and Co. signed this offseason?? Or Atlanta signed?? Or Pitt when Tomlin took over??

I think the issue in the end is that he is trying too hard to put his stamp on this team in the early going. He's trying too hard to make a statement that it's "his" team. It's almost as if he's doing it out of spite at times with the way he has handled all this.

I think it's niave to think that McD didn't have anything to do with the cuttings and signings with him being a new coach and trying to establishhis system. You know McD sat down with teh GM and talked to him about who he wanted to keep and who he wanted to have let go.

I'm not blaming McD for the entire Cutler fiasco. Plenty of blame can go around but something had to happen behind the scenes there in order for Cutler to demand a trade. Maybe rumors got floated McD wanted Cassel and Cutler reacted and that's where the trade demand came from? Maybe Cutler and McD met and didn't see eye to eye on things? Who knows; but it seems highly unlikely Cutler would demand a trade just for the hell of it.(If the report is true).

In the end though the McD coaching tenure has started off less than stellar in a lot of ways, even if it's simply from a organizational/plan stand point.

Cutler wanting a trade in the first place may have had zero to do with McD. His HC/QB Coach just left, his main WR can't stay out of trouble, their RB's are walking wounded and their D couldn't stop a peewee team.

I know that. But it also could have everything/ a lot to do with McD. or a little bit to do with him. I just think we are missing a HUGE part of the story here somewhere(mainly what caused Cutler to demand a trade; if the report is true) and to rush into complete judgement on Cutler or McD yet is premature.

Free agent quarterback Chris Simms agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos on a contract Thursday afternoon, according to league sources.

The deal is believed to be for two years.

The Titans had wanted to retain Simms, whom they signed after he was released by Tampa Bay, but the Broncos were able to work out a deal after Simms visited the team on Wednesday.

Simms, 28, will back up former Vanderbilt star Jay Cutler, who himself is not a sure thing to stay in Denver after it was revealed he was included in trade talks in recent days that would have allowed the Broncos to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel instead was dealt by the New England Patriots to Kansas City.

Simms was the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005 and early in 2006 until he suffered a ruptured spleen in a game this season. He had to have the spleen removed and did not play at all in 2007.

After the Buccaneers released him, the Titans signed him as a second quarterback while Vince Young was hampered by a knee sprain suffered in the season opener.

When Young returned to health, Simms was the third-string quarterback the rest of the season using his time to regain his strength.

Now fully healthy, Simms said at season's end he wanted an opportunity to be a No. 2 quarterback and eventually compete for a starting position.
