I saw it. I thought it was pretty damn good and they did change some stuff from the original which is always nice. Shot for shot remakes can be lame. I liked it just as much if not more than the original. However, the fact that I had to read subtitles plays a part in that.

Wow. I don't know how to describe the level of awesome this movie was. As much as I hate doing it, I created such high expectations for myself with this movie. Thankfully, I was nowhere near disappointed. The amount of satisfaction I felt as the movie progressed far exceeded anything I could ever have imagined.

The opening credits gave me a boner that didn't go down until the final scene. The last little bit of the movie bothered me in smallest way possible and would be the only problem I had with the whole thing. The story is tweaked enough from the original that it felt fresh, but what really shines is David Fincher's visual take on the material. The original film's look and feel was inspired by Fincher's own Se7en and everything I imagined the matured Fincher could have possibly done with it was blown out of the water. It is sad he won't get any sort of recognition for such a phenomenal piece of work.

From the beginning I was a little skeptical of Rooney Mara being chosen as Lisbeth Salander, but from the second she walked on screen with that mohawk, I was completely fine with it. And as the film progressed, I fell in love with her.

 

Which is why the ending irked me a slight bit

Oscar or not (most likely not ), this is one of the best female performances I've seen. She, like Fincher, took what the original created and developed her own minor additions to the character to create a sense of freshness.

I've heard many comments that the ending was excessive and drawn out, but in my opinion, I loved the movie so much, I wished it would have kept going for 2 and a half more hours; I couldn't get enough.

Usually for me, I hate knowing what is going to happen when I watch something. This movie still drew me in and I felt so invested in the investigation these two were a part of even though I knew how it was going to all play out. That is a fantastic sign and I cannot wait to see it again.

I ordered the first two books yesterday and can't wait to read them now. The more I think about it, the more I like this movie. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara killed it as did the guy who played Martin. It might be my favorite movie of 2011.

Also, I forgot out the opening credits. One of the best opening sequences I've ever seen.

I need more people who have seen the original version to chime in. And as good as Rooney Mara may be in this I highly doubt she surpasses Noomi Rapace's original turn, so SMH at the comingsoon reviewer acting like it is an instantly iconic character.

You just wouldn't get it until you saw it. Rooney Mara's performance is mind blowing. I almost started crying during the rape scene. Her revenge felt sweeter than anything I've ever seen on film. I felt like she was a real person, not some actress. She is equal parts lifeless and emotional and she out performs every actor on screen.

She terrified me, made me laugh and had me fall in love with her.

She wasn't better, but she was the perfect kind of different. You really need to see it for yourself.

Stellan Skarsgard deserves some appreciation, too. He played Martin absolutely brilliantly.

Haven't seen the American version yet, but I'm curious to see how Mara's performance compares with Noomi Rapace who was all sorts of awesome in the Swedish trilogy. Sounds like Mara knocked it out the park, which is good.

The only way we'll get the sequels is if this movie makes some money at the box office. That and it is so much better in a dark, isolated room with a gigantic screen.

The opening credits won't be the same on your TV.

Truth. Definitely one of my favorite movie characters of all-time now. I plan on watching the Swedish version sometime soon so I can compare the two Lisbeths

She was really great. I felt more attached to her than in the Swedish version. That might just be the subtitles though because I really hate reading subtitles.

 

Two things. Reznor using that Sail Away song during Blomkvist's torture scene was awesome. It was out of place, yet fit perfectly.

Also, I felt so bad for Lisbeth at the very end where she sees Blomkvist walking away with the married chick. She was just about to start doing relatively normal things and was all excited she thought she found someone who cared about her and then bam, world shattered.
