I feel like some of you are giving the Niners too much credit. Yes they have an outstanding defense, but lets take a look at something. They are in the NFC West. The worst division in the NFL which accounts for more than a 3rd of their schedule. They have only 4 wins against teams with records better than .500. Everyone says that the Saints haven't seen a defense like the 49ers, but on that same token the Niners haven't seen an offense running like the Saints. Everyone talks about how the rules favor the offense. I'm not saying the Saints are gonna post another game of 600 total yards of offense, but don't pretend like the Saints are gonna get manhandled. That pressure that the 49ers intend to get will have to go through one of the best offensive lines in football. The way they protect Drew and the way he moves around the pocket is why he is one of the least hit QB's in the league. He doesn't need Aaron Rodgers's legs to get away from pressure. Saints O has been firing on all cylinders for the past 2 months. Which is why they surpassed the "Greatest Show on Turf" as the #1 offense ever. It will be a good game, but San Fran will need to put up at least 24 points to get a victory Saturday. I'm not sure they will be able to do it.
1. The 49ers went 8-2 outside the division. Those two losses? An overtime loss to the Cowboys where they made a miraculous comeback, and a road trip to Baltimore against the other Harbaugh on a short week. I refuse to let anyone use our division as an excuse. We also played five playoff teams, and beat four of them (Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, New York, and Detroit).
2. In terms of yards per game (or total offense), the Eagles ranked 4th, the Lions ranked 5th, and the Giants ranked 8th. That's three top ten offenses, and we beat every single one of them.
3. You say we need to put up at least 24 points, which is about the only thing we agree on. We put up at least 24 points eight times this season, so it's not exactly a stretch to say we can do it.
I think it'll be a great game, and what it comes down to is who gets to play their game. Do the Saints put their passing attack on display and rack up mega yards and a points? Or do the 49ers get QB pressure, force turnovers, and dominate the field position battle to win again?
Guess we'll find out.
P.S.: That shitty NFC West you love to talk about? You've played two road games against them in the last year (Seattle and St. Louis) and lost both of them.
