Oh please, Barnett has FAILED 2 tests in the US. Of his last 5 fights (including against Fedor) in the US, he or his competitor has failed drug tests 3 times. And guess what? The opponent who failed was a guy who primarily fought in Japan, just like Barnett!

Give me a break with this NFL vs Japan BS. In the NFL, they have strict testing with stern punishments. Same thing in the California, Nevada, or anywhere else in the U.S. What does Japan have that even comes close to comparing to that.

My only concern is that at least the MLB, NBA, NFL, and the US Athletic Commissions are testing for these things and dealing out penalties. There is absolutely no such program going on in Japan. When it is a sport that is very dependent on physical attributes, steroid use is a very legitimate concern.

These guys who only/predominantly fight in Japan and avoid ever taking these tests are just as bad as Bonds, Clemens, or Manny. Especially a guy like Barnett who not only fails a test, but takes down an entire event in the process.

I would pick Fedor, he is the best HW in the world right now, has been for years, picking against him right now is just to be different

Brock does pose some problems for Fedor because he is a freak, I think he is good, but beating Frank Mir does not make you the best in the world

People always jump on the new thing and want to overrate, plus Brock being the UFC bumps him up even more

id say its even. and whos to say those fighters wont end up in the UFC. at least in the UFC we know whos hes going to be fighting, its not like every non-UFC heavy you listed are all in one org, they are scattered about, and we know he wont be facing some random freakshow can as per the normal one freakshow fight a year Fedor does.

How many of those guys you listed outside the UFC would pass a drug test in America, though? One of those guys are more roided up than a Mexican Cockfighter.

Affliction was trying to get out of doing the show for weeks, Barnett just gave them an "out".

Also, talking about the non testing in Japan is silly, because a very large percentage of the US based fighters take PED's. Only the stupid/unlucky ones get caught. These guys know how to time the stuff out of their systems, and the better paid guys hire, *ahem*, nutritionists and other "specialists" who are experts on beating tests and timing cycles. Not to mention masking agents, which get more sophisticated every day.

Lashley is 4-0 and isn't in the UFC and gets zero pub. Brock, before going to the UFC had zero pub.

Its all about being in the UFC...that is where popularity starts outside of the "MMA" circle, aka casual fans of the sport to non-fans.

Many of the casual fans don't even know who Fedor is outside of maybe hearing his name once or twice on ESPN or maybe seeing a youtube video here or there.

well, Barnett and Silva are the only ones who have tested positive in the past, Silva only failed 1 and has passed numerous tests in the states, plus he has medical issues

Overeem passed his Cali drug test, Rogers has never failed, Werdum passed all his tests when he was in the UFC, Yvel and Monson never had issues in the states either

I don't think Barnett killed Affliction, I do think he killed this PPV, though. It would have gone on if he hadn't failed the test. Affliction would have probably closed up shop afterward, which was kind of expected, but they at least would have gone out with a PPV.

As for Japan vs. US, it isn't even close. When guys fight in the US, you can at least say they passed a test to make sure they are clean. They might find ways around it, but when even major MLB players are getting caught, MMA fighters take note and might eliminate or lessen their use. In Japan, there is no drug screening. They turn a blind eye to everything. Comparing fighters in the US and those in Japan is like comparing Olympic Weight Lifters to Body Builders.
