I though Belichick should have let the Giants score with closer to 2 minutes left rather than waiting. I believe they were inside the 30 around the time and 95% of the time a kicker is making that field goal. Would've given the Pats another timeout and an extra minute to work with.

You know, it doesn't make sense in hindsight, but every coach should tell you play defense to the end, and stop a score (I'm talking about that whole drive, not when it became obvious that they had to let them score and get off the field). I mean, why not let them score on a quick 80 yarder and take the ball with two timeouts and 3 minutes left, by your logic? Rhetorical as that may be, the fact is no points are guaranteed. You can't assume Brady will drive the distance and score a TD after the Giants score early, again there is no guarantee. It didn't work for the Packers in SB XXXII letting Davis score a TD with 1:58 left. Though the Colts never let the Saints score per-say, it didn't work for Manning when he had over 5 minutes left at the end of that SB. In summation, I say play your best defense for as long as possible.

Another point, you can't force a team to score a TD when they are running plays to control the clock and specifically not score quick.

Based on records alone, this is fact. No 9-7 team had ever won a SB. There are also more factors that cement their place as least worthy SB champs:

- outscored during regular season.

- swept by the 5-11 Redskins, losing by combined 27 points.

- vs Packers: Green Bay was completely out of sync, and their OC just had his son die.

- vs 49ers: It took 2 incredibly boneheaded plays by Kyle Williams to win.

- vs Patriots: Rob Gronkowski was injured, and benefited from all sorts of lucky plays (rare safety that never gets called, 12 man on field for defense on fumble on TD drive, Brady/Welker missing on catchable pass that wouldve ended game).

This topic would have been better executed if the focus wasn't so much on the Giants and instead of the fact that the past two seasons a 10-6 team and 9-7 team got hot and ran through the playoffs. The NFL playoffs has become the NCAA tournament.

I agree with your point, but i see big differences between 2010 GB and 2011 NYG.

For all the reasons i stated above, i dont feel that the 2011 NYG were the better or hotter team in any of their playoff games (besides Atlanta). It just seems like it was more self-destruction by the opponents, than NYG winning.

I can see what you're saying, but IMO they beat every team they played. I don't think any of the teams had circumstances that made it any easier for the Giants to win. At the end of the day they had to play the games and they made the necessary plays to win, while the other teams didn't. IDK. The Giants are a very talented team and IMO most people lose sight of that. They have every aspect of the game covered from offensive weapons, a good QB to a solid defense and history tells us that when they're focused they play really well.

IMO if anything in today's NFL it is truly about just "getting into the playoffs and from there anything can happen" Other than the obvious of having to qualify for the playoffs the regular season isn't as meaningful as it once was, because a hot team can run right through it....and this is probably because there really is no "best team".

Wait, you're saying that the Giants took advantages of the opportunities that other teams gave them? I've never heard something so preposterous that usually the team that does that wins the game... oh, wait. That's usually what happens.
