On last nights show, the lead story was a 3-0 NFL Preseason game. They spent 7 minutes on highlights, complete with Herm Edwards breaking it down ("The Cowboys defense showed me something tonight!"). Preseason. Fake game. Breaking it down. 3-0. Seven minutes.
They then showed two baseball highlights, and the next seven stories were NFL related. Do you realize how deep you have to dig for seven NFL stories on August 13?
Sunday, with Rory McIlroy winning the PGA in dominant fashion, MLB pennant races, a NASCAR race, Team USA hoops winning gold, and Olympics all happening, the top story, once again, was fake football. A game between the two worst teams in the league last year no less. Because Andrew Luck threw a ball two yards on a screen play for a TD. That was the top story on a loaded Sunday. A TD in a NFL exhibition.

Three SportsCenter anchors (term used loosely since 2 of them are ex-players/coaches) wearing birthday hats, with a cake and fake bagged gifts celebrating Tim Tebow's 25th Birthday. I'm almost positive they do it for every player in every league when it's their birthday.

Self-fulfilling prophecy. I am kind of proud of myself, I haven't turned on ESPN in months, now that I get NBATV and MLB Network there's simply no reason to watch ESPN outside of the games themselves.

That I don't have to rely on ESPN for any sports coverage. Most people, if they aren't happy with the product should do it too. It's 2012 and there's numerous options out there.
And yes, those are all sports, they deserve some level of coverage if they have major events. I'm not saying you have to lead the post-Super Bowl show with tennis highlights but what Warner outlined is absolutely ridiculous for a sports show that claims to be a leader in sports journalism.
At some level they need to maintain some type of journalistic integrity, right?

I'm guilty of always flipping on ESPN int he morning for SC. I rarely ever "watch" it. It's just always kind of on in the background. Habit I've had since I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade.
I was the same, it's habitual viewing for people, but I think the only way to drive some sort of change from them is by going to those other options if you aren't happy. Too often people just put it on because they are so use to doing it but at the same type bitch about how awful it is.

I understand that some people completely dismiss the Olympics, but the NBC ratings were through the roof and most people I know were watching the Olympics. So its odd that ESPN gave virtually zero coverage of the Olympic results.
ESPN tries to operate like Citizen Kane (we'll make the news ourselves!), but it doesn't really work when ESPN doesn't show that many sporting events. They pretend that the Olympics aren't really "sports", yet they will spend time on Sportscenter giving recaps of poker games and spelling bees.
