James Tannenbaum: Hello, and welcome to The Indiana Radio Show, presented by Pepsi Cola. I'm your host, James Tannenbaum, and I'm here to bring you all news related to Indiana sports. Along side me today is football head coach Bill Lynch, who's on his phone from Detroit in preparation of the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl that's set to go tomorrow. Welcome aboard, Bill.

Bill Lynch: It's my pleasure.

Tannenbaum: Before we get started, Bill, I gotta ask; what's it like down there? I imagine the air is electric even though it's a fairly minor bowl game. Am I right?

Lynch: It's insane down here. Fans have already starting camping outside the stadium in anticipation of the stadium's opening. It might be between non-top 25 teams, but these fan don't seem to care. They are just ready for some postseason action. It's going to be crazy, James.

Tannenbaum: Dang, that's insane. All right, let's get down to business so you can get back to what you are doing.

Lynch: All right. Let's go.

Tannenbaum: Your first question comes from mvickd00g@gmail.com, who asks, "What are you telling your players to get them ready for the game ahead?"

Lynch: Mostly, I've been telling them that this is possibly their only shot at postseason glory, and that the only way we'll win the game is if we want it more than them. Get's them pretty pumped.

Tannenbaum: Really? Hm. Interesting. All right, our next one comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous, who says, "What do you guys plan to do to stop Ohio's offense? Will you have trouble with it?"

Lynch: I can't really say we won't have trouble with it on live radio, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. They are a pass-first team who runs just enough to keep you off-balance--which is nothing new to us, since our passing defense is spotty at best--and they do that with success most of the time. All we have to do is get to the quarterback early and often. If we do that, we win the game.

Tannenbaum: And if you can't hit the QB?

Lynch: ...I'm not going to think about that.

Tannenbaum: *laughs* All...all right then. We only have time for one more question, which comes from Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who asks, "If both teams play well, who will win the game?"

Lynch: If we play even above average for us, we will win the game easily. As long as we start out fast and take an early lead, the game will be ours.

Tannenbaum: You have a prediction for us?

Lynch: ...35-25.

Tannenbaum: Well, we are out of time for today. Thank you for coming on the show, Bill.

Lynch: Again, it was my pleasure.

The Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl was a game nobody would want to miss. The injury depleted Indiana Hoosiers, coming off a four-game losing skid, were getting ready to face the class of the MAC in the Ohio Bobcats. Aside from setting NCAA records for fewest plays from scrimmage in a bowl game and most yards per play, this was a hard-fought game that could have gone either way. But who won? Was it Ohio, with their talented quarterback and stout defense, or the Indiana Hoosiers, led by Ben Chappell and an outstanding receiving corp?

The Ohio Bobcats won the toss and elected to receive, and boy was it a mistake. The Bobcats had no match for Fred Jones, the first team All-American defensive end for Indiana, who had a tackle for loss, a sack, and a quarterback hit en route to a three-and-out for Ohio. Indiana, however, could not get anything going either, and they were forced into a three-and-out as well. Chris Hagerup managed to punt the ball to Indiana's one yard line, however, which led to Fred Jones breaking free and tackling the Ohio running back in the end zone for a safety. Indiana had already jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, and we were barely a minute into the game.

Fred Jones's safety gave Indiana an early 2-0 lead in this game.​

Indiana had all the momentum on their side after the safety, but again, the offense failed to produce much. They got a nice first down off an option run by Ben Chappell, but then went three-and-out and were forced to kick a 44-yard field goal. They nailed it and took a 5-0 lead.

After getting the ball again, Ohio went back to work, quickly driving down the field to the Indiana one yard-line. After being stopped on three consecutive plays, the Bobcats figured they had nothing to lose and went for the touchdown on fourth down. They got it, and Indiana found themselves losing 5-7.

Indiana dug themselves into a huge hole on their next possession. On first and 10, Ben Chappell was smashed behind the line and fumbled the ball away, and the Bobcats recovered the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. Now Indiana was trailing 5-14, and we still had a few minutes left in the quarter.

This is where the game gets really insane. Tandon Doss caught the ball on the kickoff, found a hole, and sprinted all the way into the end zone for a return touchdown. Now they were only trailing 12-14 To make matters worse for Ohio, Chris Adkins of Indiana intercepted Ohio quarterback Boo Jackson on the first play from scrimmage, taking it to the house for a touchdown. Nick Freeland promptly missed the extra point and gave Indiana a 18-14 lead.

Tandon Doss had a huge hole on his way to a return touchdown, his first game back from injury.​

Ohio then went three-and-out to end the first quarter.

End of first quarter: Indiana 18, Ohio 14.

The second quarter was, sadly, a lot less exciting than the first quarter, but it was not without its own surprises. Indiana got the ball to start the second quarter and monotonously drove down the field into the red zone. Then then got stopped, forcing them to settle for a 23-yard field goal. Which they missed. Yeah, you heard me. Nick Freeland, already having missed an extra point, smacked the crossbar with a usually-chip-shot field goal. Ohio couldn't take advantage of the missed opportunity for Indiana, however, as they went three-and-out again and had to punt the ball away. Tandon Doss took the punt twenty-eight yards into Ohio territory, where Indiana started its drive.

Indiana quickly went three-and-out again (something that, as you can see, will be quite common in this game for both teams), and lined up to kick a 56-yard field goal. (WARNING: I DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS PLAY WAS ALMOST A GUARANTEED TOUCHDOWN). Indiana hiked the ball, faked the kick, and fired the ball down field into the arms of a wide-open Trea Burgess, who practically walked into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point game Indiana a commanding 25-14 lead.

Ohio got forced into a three-and-out again, but this three-and-out was not an ordinary one. Fred Jones, who was all over the field the entire game, recorded his second sack of the game--and his 17th of the season, a new Indiana season record. The game was stopped to honor the record-setter, who would run his record to 19 sacks later in the game.

Indiana quickly drove down the field to end the half, and booted a field goal as time expired to give Indiana a 28-14 advantage heading into halftime.

End of second quarter: Indiana 28, Ohio 14

How would the game finish? Would Ohio, who fell apart in the second quarter and is now trailing by 14 points, come back to win? Or will Indiana hold off the Bobcats and win its first bowl game in over twenty years? Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Indiana got the ball to start the second quarter, as they lost the coin toss to begin the game, but they couldn't really do much on their first possession. They were forced into a third and 17 which they surprisingly converted, but after that they were stopped and had to punt the ball away. Ohio couldn't take advantage as well, as Fred Jones collected his third sack and forced Ohio into a three-and-out.

Indiana found themselves in another hole--they were forced into a long third down again--but Trea Burgess found a hole in the line and broke free for a long touchdown run, giving Indiana a 35-14 lead.

Ohio went three-and-out for the sixth time in the game (two other times their drives were even shorter than that), but Indiana received more bad news than good. Leon Beckum, the starting middle linebacker who was also an impact player and a team captain, broke his leg and had to be sent to a local hospital. Word is that he will miss much of the off-season but should be back in time for next year's opener.

Indiana's next drive was extremely lucky. On three straight sets of downs they backed themselves into a third and long, and all three times Ben Chappell found an open receiver for a first down. He ended up throwing an interception as time expired in the third quarter, ending the drive in its tracks.

A dumb throw by Ben Chappell turned out to be deadly, as it was intercepted by the Bobcats.​

End of third quarter: Indiana 35, Ohio 14

Ohio had the ball with decent field position to start the 4th quarter, and a forty-three yard completion gave them fantastic field position. With momentum on their side and the ball on Indiana's 27-yard line, the Bobcats were primed for an easy touchdown. However, on the next play, Fred Jones garnered his 4th--and final--sack in this epic game and injured Boo Jackson ankle on the play. It was a high ankle sprain, and injury that kept him on the sidelines for the remainder of the game. The backup quarterback couldn't do anything but throw incompletions, and the drive ended with Ohio tanking a 38-yard field goal.

Jackson just got his shit rocked by All-American Fred Jones.​

Indiana quickly drove down the field but stalled in the red zone again. The Hoosiers sent in Nick Freeland to attempt an easy field goal which, unsurprisingly, he missed again. It was his third missed kick of the game, one that would have him benched for backup Mitch Ewald and placed in the dog house.

Ohio sucked on its next drive as well, as Fred Jones hit the quarterback on three straight plays en route to another Bobcats three-and-out. The teams then traded three-and-outs, and Indiana kneeled the ball to end the game.

End of Game: Indiana 35, Ohio 14.

After a long and grueling season, Indiana has finally ended on top. They finally succeeded in winning the bowl game that had alluded their grasp for over twenty years. It took five different coaches and 20 losing seasons, but they finally found success in the postseason. Congratulations to Indiana.

Thanks man. Definitely proud of a championship. The off-season will be tough though. I'm losing so much talent. Hopefully I can rebound next year.
