I think so.

Yes and no. Basketball is a sport that can be dominated by individuals. No matter how good those 3 do if the Marlins have a shitty bullpen and bad starting pitching they'll suck.

It'd be an impressive offense though.

I'm just not comfortable in 2011 saying that anyone is definitely clean.

There's also a difference between thinking someone is definetly clean and "jonesy" at the idea of him being clean.

Can I sit here and say that Pujols is "definetly" clean? No.

However with everythign that has come out over the last half decade if there was any real good evidence of it I think it woul dhave leaked out or been exposed by now.

Until something really starts to smolder around Pujols I'll stand by that I think he is clean.

I think assuming he is dirty is being cynical just for the sake of it.

The latest Nationals news...

The Angels have no interest in trading Peter Bourjos and the Mets plan to keep Angel Pagan, writes Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com.

The Nationals and Rays discussed center fielder B.J. Upton recently, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Yesterday we heard the Rays would have to be overwhelmed to move Upton. The Nationals are "fixated" on leaving the Winter Meetings with a new center fielder, a team source told Pete Kerzel of MASNSports.com.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson has talked to free agent Mark DeRosa about joining the team, reports MLB.com's Bill Ladson. The Nats also have interest in bringing Willie Harris back.

The Nationals are letting teams know Roger Bernadina is available in trade, tweets ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The 27-year-old posted a .243/.301/.362 line in 337 plate appearances this year.

Prince Fielder Rumors: Tuesday

The market for Prince Fielder is developing slowly. Yesterday we heard of varying degrees of interest from the Orioles and Mariners, while the Brewers and Dodgers admitted they likely can't afford the big man. Today's Fielder rumors are below:

The Mariners are the frontrunner for Fielder, tweets Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio and ESPN.

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos told Jim Bowden on MLB Network Radio he's unlikely to sign Fielder because he's not going past a five-year commitment.

The Cubs are eyeing Fielder more than Albert Pujols, tweets Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The Cubs won't do nine or ten years for Pujols, and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that they prefer high dollars and a shorter term for Fielder as well.

Closer Rumors

The Blue Jays, Twins, and Marlins added closers in recent days, and it's not clear whether the remaining teams with ninth inning openings are willing to spend big. The latest on several closers...

The Angels are interested in trading for Seattle's Brandon League, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Angels have also expressed interest in free agents Todd Coffey and Jason Isringhausen, tweets Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times, but they probably won't move on a reliever until C.J. Wilson decides what to do.

There's lots of buzz that Ryan Madson and Francisco Rodriguez could accept arbitration with the Phillies and Brewers, respectively, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark. I still think Scott Boras will advise both to decline tomorrow night.

The Rockies are willing to eat all of Huston Street's $8MM salary for prospects, tweets Stark. He says the Padres are a possibility.

Stark confirms yesterday's rumor that the Royals will listen on Joakim Soria, but they want a front-line starter in return.

Fielder is going wherever the money is imo.

He had it made in Milwaukee. Had one of the best hitters in baseball hitting infront of him, everyone in Milwaukee loved him, he played with his good friends in Weeks, Hart, and Gallardo. They grew up together in the minor league system. His kids said they loved it in Milwaukee.

Same thing with the Pujols situation. It's pretty sad how money is more important over loyalty these days. Need more players in this game like Braun, and Weaver who take less to stay with the team.

Fielder in SafeCo........?

The Mariners need more pop in the lineup, seeing as how Miguel Olivo led the team in home runs last season. I still don't see Fielder going to a team that is not yet in contention, and also would hurt his production totals. It would be more likely for him to pick a team with a solid park for him, like the Orioles, over Seattle.

Dmitri Young has been roaming the halls of the winter meetings here. Young has slimmed down considerably. He’s a 240 pounds after last playing at 295.

“I heard you’re trying to make a come back,” I said to him.

“Take that ‘try’ part out,” he said. “I’m going to.”

Young hasn’t played since 2008. He hit .280/.394/.400 for Nationals that year. He hit .320 in 460 at-bats in 2007.

Young has not talked to the Reds yet. But he plans to. He’s only 38. He’s not a great fit because he’s limited as far as positions. He played only first base his last three years. But my guess is he can still hit.

But I get sense that they are confident they will be able to make a deal. I also get the sense that Jair Jurrjens is not on the top of their list. I think he may be a fallback guy. But he has injury issues and the Braves would not be interested in Yonder Alonso or Yasmani Grandal — probably the Reds two best trading chips.

My sense is James Shields is the Reds’ No. 1 target. I think Gio Gonzalez is on the list, too. Alonso would be a fit in either case.

The Reds will have to give up a lot to get a deal done. I heard Oakland GM Billy Beane talking yesterday. He said there’s a difference between shopping players and being willing to listen when teams call. Sounds like the A’s are in that mode with Gonzalez.

I'll echo the last statement you made. Oakland is looking for offense and a young outfielder, the Orioles were rumored on Gonzalez and need starting pitching in the worst way. Yet from Duquette's comments, he isn't going to be trading Adam Jones (fits the criteria for what Beane wants) and basically labeled him untouchable.

I love Adam Jones, but I recognize our need for starting pitching. To get a guy who has four years left before free agency, and is a legit ace, I would do that if I am the Orioles.

In addition to the Mets, it looks like the other teams are the Marlins, Nationals, Rangers and Twins. I am actually surprised to see the Twins in on Buerhle and already have a contract proposal submitted to his agent, because this was the year for both Mauer and Morneau's contracts to balloon.
