How bad is Colts ownership?

For the last decade plus maybe Peyton manning has blinded us all to this but with the clown show that ensued around Manning's release, the #1 pick this year etc it's become clear to me Irsay is a loon.

Now there is a story on ESPN with GM Grigson trying to act coy and not "show his hand" with who they will be taking. Are the Colts morons or do they really think even the most casual NFL follower doesn't realize that they are taking Luck?

Has the Colts FO/ownership always been this bad or was Bill Polian turning over the reigns basically opening the doors to the nuthouse in that franchise?

If you ask me the sign that the organization was ran bad was highlighted by how far they fell when Manning went down. No franchise should be built around the health of one player.

I saw this every year since 2007....when they gave Bob Sanders a 5yr deal for $37.5 million with $20 million bonus...and continued to keep him for 3 more seasons under that contract where he played a whopping 9 games out of almost 50 or so.

As a fan, it seems we've certainly entered an interesting time.

Now, Irsay took over around 97, but has been involved since shortly before the move to Indianapolis.

You ask "How Bad" but what exactly has been BAD in Indianapolis outside of this ridiculous year? They've got a ring, Numerous players have been named for awards under Irsay, They've been the most successful regular season team in NFL history iirc.

Indianapolis has never been put on blast for Bounties, Spygates, Jamarcus Russles, winless seasons. Indianapolis has rarely had issues with their players concerning the law, and when they have they've dealt with them accordingly - See Ed Johnson. Indianapolis is even the first team in History to win a superbowl with an African American head coach.

Now, I'm a colt fan. I can't take off the homer goggles, even if I think they're off, they're more than likely still on. but if I sit here and think about the last 17 years, all the way back to Captain Comeback and the Cardiac Colts against Pittsburgh in the AFC Title game, I'm hard pressed to say I'm unhappy with Colt's ownership. I think they've done a pretty decent job of giving Indianapolis Colt fans a great team to watch.

Luck won't be Manning, so it will be interesting to see how much of the Colts success had to do with Manning or not. I have a feeling that Manning set the tone for the franchise and his ability caused everyone in the organization to be accountable; however, I also feel his greatness clouded many of the deficiencies that the organization has had.

Irsay is the owner. He can do wtf he wants. I think the real problem is we don't have anything fresh to talk about football-wise, so we're entering the realm of making big deals of shit that otherwise doesn't matter.

I wasn't all for releasing P$, but I like the general direction of Pagano & Grigson's vision for the franchise.
