How good are the Green Bay Packers?

I'd say the Packers are still pretty damn good. They haven't lost a game since last December and along the way picked up another Super Bowl championship. They have the best record in the league and can clinch HFA next week with a win over the woeful Bears. The Chiefs caught the Packers looking forward to their next two games over division rivals at home and they won't come out flat for those games.

Today was a trap game plain and simple. No need for panic in Green Bay.

Indy pulling their starters did show weakness and did have some impact on the team. This can't be denied, the team visibly reacted to it. But it's pretty much impossible to measure that impact and it's not likely it was a large enough to make them lose the Superbowl.

You saying this years Packers are better than the 07 Pats just because they managed to win the SB (assuming it even happens of course) has as much validity as me saying this years Chiefs are > than this years Packers because they beat them today.




I'd rather have the better team since it increases my likelihood of winning the SB.

Kind of an interesting thought. Last year the Packers won the Super Bowl despite a ton of injuries. They were probably better than their 10-6 record indicated. If the Packers go like 15-1 this year and win the Super Bowl, then they will have had a season of 18-1 with a Super Bowl win, preceded by another Super Bowl win. The Patriots will have an 18-1 season without a Super Bowl win, followed up by missing the postseason.

I seem to remember a Saints team a few years back that was undefeated up until around this time, then slid for a few weeks, and nobody knew what was happening, then eventually they went on to win the Superbowl.

I'm still not sure why the phrase "trap game" is being thrown around. Isn't there a game of more importance to follow, in that scenario? When you're trying to remain undefeated, every game is important. Not to mention, home field advantage was a pretty big incentive.

Home games against your oldest rivals to close out the season are more important to the players than a road game against a non-conference opponent that is on life support. The Packers did not take the Chiefs seriously but the Chiefs played the Packers like it was their Super Bowl.

I might have had a share in it also.

I had just moved so I had to watch the game in a house full of Bears fans. also, I was not wearing my lucky superbowl jacket, nor was I wearing my lucky faded standard green bay hat, choosing instead to go with a combo of the new "shadowed logo" hat in the first half and then a yellow away.

I hadnt trimmed my goatee since the start of the season either. I thought it was good luck, but I guess it wasnt. it's gone as soon as I find the shaving cream in one of those boxes.

but other than my ridiculous superstitions, I don't have alot of thoughts about the game. I'm not saying it's a good thing that they lost, losing is never okay, but the reason pro football is awesome is because you never really know what's gonna happen and Green Bay played to win the entire time, there wasnt any bullshit controversy about sitting starters, they fought until the last snap, and all the haters get their chance to talk about how overrated a 13-1 team is.

i think all the Packer faithful can agree that we'd rather have a loss in December than in January.

If you've watched this Packers team the entire season, you would notice that both offensively and defensively they really haven't tried anything new. They have been using the same plays and schemes all season because they've simply worked (up until now). I'm convinced that they have been saving their best work for the playoffs, especially on defense. I'm very excited to see what McCarthy and Capers have up their sleeves come January.
