If the Vikings win the Super Bowl - is Favre the G.O.A.T?

It would certainly build the case for him to be GOAT, even though with a Superbowl win, 3 MVP's and every meaningful QB related record...it's not hard to make a case for him as GOAT before this season.

My GOAT list looks something like this, in no particular order after Montana.

Brady

Favre is on a mission to win the Superbowl. The man feeds off of being slighted and having the best season of his career followed by the media fawning over Manning for MVP just stoked the fire a little more. Don't look now but he is the highest rated QB in the postseason right now....107.7 in the regular season and 134.4 in the postseason.

The fact that he got there with the average team around him was a miracle. You can only do so much for your team with the team you have.

I have seen Favre lose way to many critical games making stupid mistakes that I just can't put him in the top 5. Every quarterback makes dumb mistakes but his mistakes are HUGE and are in HUGE moments in games.

Per example (As i'm an Eagles fan) in overtime of the 4th and 26 game he throws on 2nd down a completely retarded 60 yard bomb down the field and not 1 reciever was within 10 yards of the ball.

As a result, Dawkins easily picked it off and ran into fieldgoal range. It seems that he's getting better as he's getting older with limiting the mistakes but right now when I think of Favre I think of a high risk-high reward type of guy.

Top 10? Yes. Fringe. Around the 8-12 range, probably around the 8-10 range. If you were a Packers fan (Or, Vikings fan right now) you'd probably say top 5.

I do agree that I shouldn't have included Namath in the mix nor do I know why I did. However I still stand by my stance of the others being ranked ahead of him.

Ofcourse you could use the 'Unitas dominated an era where there wasn't much QB competition' and such but what I say is that although the speed is faster in todays game, they protect the QB more then ever. Todays game is an offensive game, back when Unitas played it was more of a run-run-pass style of game.

You mean he cost them games that they wouldn't have even gotten to without him? For an example of this, see this years version of the Patriots. They would not have even made the playoffs this year without Brady.

Don't forget he had 40,000+ passing yards and 290 tds with just 253 ints in an era when DB's were linebackers who could damn near tackle WR's at any given time during a play.

I just can't rank Favre top 5 with his late game horrible decision making. Just go through this decade and look at his playoff games..

2001 vs. Rams in the Divisional Playoffs: 6 interceptions. Possibly the worst playoff performance of all time.

2003 vs. Eagles in the Divisional Playoffs: Brett Favre throws a game bomb 50 yards down the field and Brian Dawkins intercepts it and returns it and sets us up for a 40 yard fieldgoal or so attempt. Noone within 10 yards of the ball but Eagles.

2004 vs. Vikings Wild Card Playoffs: Brett Favre throws 4 interceptions against the Vikings. This was after he beat them twice in the regular season, at home.

2007 NFC Championship game vs. the Giants: Brett Favre throws an interception at the end of the 4th that was fumbled by McQuarters (luckily) and then he goes into OT and throws an interception to Webster to lose the championship game.

2008 vs. Dolphins final game of the regular season to get into the playoffs: Throws 3 interceptions and plays just down right awful.

In this case McNabb must be one of the best of all time with his great regular season performances and then playoff failures by this logic.. You can say this arguement for any quarterback.

Brett Favre was so tough, they never listed him on the injury report (ask the New York Jets & Mangini). I mean he has been in this league for 19 years, playing at a pretty good level throughout, he also holds the most starts record by the way. He knows he's gonna get hit, takes it, gets back up and smiles (maybe not the strahan one). And people go in for the kill when they get a chance to attack the quarterback. I mean we may have differing definitions of toughness when it comes to the NFL, but how can you argue that consistency over a LONG period of time is not one of them.
