"Innovative and New Take" Coming For Madden NFL 11

Been posting about this on the OS boards.

They dropped the "innovation" word cause that's their current buzzword.

They used it with NCAA BBall (innovative presentation) NCAA FBall (Innovative Defensive player lock) NHL (Innovative Online Mode and Fighting) FIFA (Innovative 360 dribbling) EA Sports Active (Innovative Gym Activity) etc. Read all those game previews and you'll see that term thrown around everywhere.

Of course that article has OS flippin their lids about what it could mean, so obviously it's working.



Who cares what they have to say really. EA, in 5 attempts at next gen sports has proven they can do nothing but take 2 steps forward with one large step backwards with every release of Madden.

It'll be no different next year, cause the shareholders need to be pleased which translates into maximize the profits, spend as little and make as much. Same ol Madden, serve it up. Considering they need to please some old rich fucks, I'd expect even more microtransaction bullshit.


As far as I'm concerned, the only gaming company that has figured out next gen sports games is SCEA. FIFA/NHL/Madden aren't on the same level as The Show, not even close.

In other news, Electronic Arts today bought Midway Games and announced the development team that brought you NFL Blitz will be taking over a major project for 2010 release.

So I was joking about EA buying Midway and turning Madden into NFL Blitz....they really fucking hired the guy that developed NFL Blitz to oversee the development of Madden '11.

Don't understand why this is really surprising to you guys. It's EA. You should be used to bad news by now. In fact, you should applaud EA for this, least this year their essentially coming right out at the beginning of the year warning you. Unlike previous years where they hype up everything.

They did this with NCAA, and released NCAA 9.5. It was still a flop.

Luckily they don't have any competition. Or gamers would flock to that game versus EA's version. You wanna talk about losses EA? If you weren't the only game in town? You'd be shitting yourselves right now. It's really sad that a game like NBA Live gets better because it has competition. However, for Madden EA takes the easy way out and recycles it every year.

Q: This isn't your first venture with sports video games, as you were the driving force behind a number of original sports IPs at Midway (NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, NBA Ballers, etc.). While those are wildly different than traditional sports sims, where do you see that experience carrying over to EA SPORTS?

A: I have focused on arcade sports and fighting game titles for the last 17 years, and even though they aren't traditional sims, there are huge lessons learned that can be applied to sim titles. Including how to communicate rules/situations to the user, ways to make the game easier to pick up and play, how to make plays/moves more impactful and entertaining, and even the general pacing of a game to keep player attention. The industry and audience is changing fairly dramatically, and often times our customer is looking for a quicker, more streamlined experience. That type of thinking was required in the arcades, and is becoming more important for all platforms. I love the arcade style games, but certainly understand the difference and requirements for sim products.

Q: Gaming has changed drastically, even in the past 10 years, to expand beyond the console to mobile phones, social networks, and more. Where do you see the future of sports gaming amidst these changing times?

A: The future is indeed bright for sports fans! Developers have never had more opportunity to deliver fun compelling gameplay to our audience. Games are going to stay with you for many years as you grow your teams and skills, features are added/improved, and hardware comes and goes. Your skills and achievements will follow you and reward you regardless of platform. Consumers are becoming increasingly fragmented, so we must cater experiences to varied consumers and allow them to pick and choose between modes they are compelled by. We can't market a complex title to everyone. The industry has never seen such an exciting time and consumers have never had it better.
