Is Derrick Rose becoming the best PG in the NBA?

That's the thing about Rose is He HAS to shoot 20+ times a game or this Bulls team doesn't score.

I don't think this is very true. This is the NBA. At the very minimum everyone should make an open shot 60% of the time. It is Roses job as the floor general MAKE his teammates open.

He's labeled a PG, he's supposed to run the point, and he's an above average point guard, but his scoring doesn't make him a good PG, Nobody cares if he scores that's not a PG's job, PG needs to open up scoring. Like everybody else said I'd Take CP3, Deron and Rondo way before Rose if I was building a team.

Idk why Zack starts these threads every couple months, like last year the Rose>Rondo thread was a fail. Bulls fans will agree with you. Almost nobody else will.

But if he is 8th in the league in the only stat that really defines a PG then why should he be called better than CP3, DWill or Rondo?

His assists per turnover is well below Rondo and CP3... not too much worse then DWill.

Rose is becoming a top tier PG, but to say he's anywhere near the best is pretty absurd. He's legit, I'm a fan of his, but come on ...

CP3 and Williams have their teams playing great basketball right now, as long as they are in the league Rose will never be the best. Same goes for Rondo and Westbrook.

I'd even take Westbrook and Rondo over Rose, but barely.

The Bulls starting SG is Keith Bogans or Ronnie Brewer. His starting SF is Luol Deng. PF Taj Gibson. C Joakim Noah.

The Bulls offense is designed for Rose to shoot(especially while missing Boozer). It's not like he's shooting at the expense of getting a guy like Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Shaquille O'Neal or Paul Pierce shots. And he's still over 8 assists per game.

Honestly, who else on the Bulls would you rather have shooting at this point? Deng is terrible off the dribble, Korver can't create for himself...etc etc.

If you ever watch the guy play you never come away thinking he's dominating the basketball just for the hell of it or to get his the way other PG's have that shoot more than 20 times per game. I would think, as would any sane basketball observer, that Rose's shots would tail off a bit once Carlos Boozer comes back into the mix. I think it's a bit of a stretch to evaluate his shots per game at this point when the Bulls are missing their second best player and a guy who the Bulls offense figured was going take quite a few shots.

I'm not sure if Rose is top 3. Frankly I don't really care. He's one of the best in the game. Where he is "ranked" doesn't matter to me as long as the Bulls keep winning.

When I think of PG's taking a lot of shots I think of Allen Iverson. Iverson had the stats year in and out, but due to him being a scorer before a PG. That is what I am seeing in Rose right now. He is a scorer before a PG. I will be impressed if he holds up 8APG

Iverson at his peak was taking 25-27 shots per game and shooting in the low 40's % wise. Rose is taking 22 shots per game shooting in the mid to upper 40's % wise wit 8+ APG on a team missing isn't second scoring option at the time. Comparing Rose to a guy like Iverson or even Marbury isn't really a great comparison as they have different styles and it's ignoring the current composition of this Bulls team.

Their styles are different due to differing physical tools, but the numbers are closer than you are making it out to be.

IMO, he's a better man defender. He's 3 inches taller and about 30 pounds heavier, yet roughly the same speed. If I can only have one superstar on my team, I take CP3. But if I'm choosing a point based around (team) defense, then I pick Dwill.

If he keeps producing the way he has so far this season then he can be considered on the same tier as DWill/CP3/Rondo/Nash...but he's just on a hot streak right now (One that I am loving because he is on my Fantasy squad)
