I agree with you 100%, my issue I guess is how they would follow through with it. As much as I don't want to say it, it is a part of the game.

Should you remove all first time offenders, no questions asked? Should you remove a player that gives someone a concussion but within the rules? Should you remove anyone who hits with the helmet, offensive, defensive, in a pile, open field, etc.? It's just too grey to make it a black and white rule.

How? A defender who hits a defenseless player (QB in the act of throwing, Receiver in the act of catching...etc) helmet to helmet is going to get a penalty and probably a fine. Not sure what is so difficult to understand.

Dspydr, I just don't understand what you are arguing for. No matter the intent or when comparing to other hits made in the league, on a single base casis the hit Harrison made was life-threatening and could have been avoided, that is not debatable. That is all that really matters here. Shouldn't the league be trying their absoulte best to be eliminating that from the game?

edit: If you don't think that was a dirty hit then I guess logic is useless here. I thought you seemed like a respectable football fan but I guess that must have been misguided.

i'm a guy that defends good clean football most of the time, and i think on the whole the crackdown on hitting is bullshit, and i think that most of the flags for unnecessary roughness are at best kowtowing to goodell, but there is 0 defense for that play, he had like 3 steps to lower his head.
