Is it time to just throw James Harrison out of the league?

Yes and yes, and it's a penalty, yes. "Dirty", though? He's running through contact. He pushes McCoy to the ground. His helmet caught McCoy's jaw, but most of the impact was from the neck down. It just looks bad because any impact with the helmet causes a huge whiplash (which is why people use it in the first place).

This is a big hit to me, nothing more. I don't see a guy that should be removed from the league at all here.

I just don't know how you could possibly see this as "running through contact". As I've posted he could have avoided the helmet to helmet entirely if he had just attempted to pull up. He had plenty of time. He chose not to, and should be punished severely for reasons that I've stated multiple times in this thread and you've chosen to ignore.

I am not trying to pile on anyone right now. I am advocating more strict rules when it comes to helmet to helmet contact regardless of player because of the extraordinarily serious ramifications that come from it and using Harrison as an example (because he is the latest and greatest example) for why things need to change if the NFL cares the slightest about the livelihood of their players.

I don't think it's okay that exceptions are made for athletes, but that doesn't mean that exceptions AREN'T made for athletes.

I disagree. I watched it at full speed multiple times and there was enough time to not do what he did. Reaction times are not going to change regardless of location or emotion or anything for that matter. He had time to try to pull up if he wanted to (which he clearly didn't). And how does he get the benefit of the doubt anyways? If anything he should get the benefit of guilt.

Point is, I think Harrison tried to rock McCoy with a big shot and inadvertently caught him on the chin with his helmet. Is that worthy of removing a guy from the league, or a suspension, that's not up to be to decide.

After watching the replay, my opinions.
1- Harrison has bad technique, he's going to hurt someone out there.
2- The play was flagable, since it was H2H. BUT...I wouldn't suspend him. Maybe a fine, but definitely not more than his past fine had been.
3- Harrison is a gladiator. He is a freight train on the field. He disrupts everything. Fines and flags, I would still want him on my team.
4- Colt should have thrown away the ball sooner, those extra 2 seconds didn't do anything for him.

Was Big Ben back in the game at that point? Or no?

Clearly illegal , clearly he should know better. Fines should be % not flat $$ values. A 15k fine wont hurt as much as a 15% of your yearly salary fine. He'll learn sooner or later.


Worst case scenario you kick him out of the league for unsportmanlike conduct and send him to the slaughterhouse.

The difference is Berry gets low and makes the correct play. No coach probably ever told Harrison he was doing the right thing when aiming high. That's what all of these fines and flags were for, to teach Harrison to use the proper technique but he refuses to do so. That's where this argument is coming from, if Harrison is blatantly disregarding the safety of players then he shouldn't be playing. On that player with McCoy it would of been easy for him to just drive right through his body and make a great play, but instead he wanted to lay "the big hit" which was staying up high and even if he didn't mean it, when you stay up high like that you most likely are going to hit with the helmet.
