Why?

Painter isn't their QB of the future, not even close.

Collins admittedly had a lousy game, but if your goal is to win now, you go with Collins. If your goal is to establish an heir apparent, it ain't Painter. So you might as well go with the guy who at least gives you a tiny chance of winning.

My thing is this. At least painter knows the offense. I'm surprised they threw Collins in after he's only been there for two weeks. They would have done better starting off the season with Painter until Collins picked up the offense. People saying you have a better chance to win with Collins, but do you? He's been benched for VY twice in the last few years, and VY went crazy. He's never been much of a winner except for a couple of winning seasons here and there, and he doesn't know the playbook. I don't know what about that made him an appealing opening day starter.

I know this though, 1 or 2 more performances like last week and we'll likely see Painter on the field, almost would have to.

Its like I said in another thread, people seem to think this is Madden where you can just pick a guy up and throw him in the lineup. Now you have people calling for Garrard, as if you can sign him today and have him playing by Sunday.

Seriously though, maybe a Colts fan can answer this for me. If they weren't happy with Painter, why didn't they persue Jim Sorgi? Is he even available? You have to think he was a better option than Collins.

Painter is no good, Sorgi was never any good. You act as if the Colts ever gave a shit who their backup is. Saying that Curtis Painter took all the first team reps in training camp as a reason why he should start holds no weight. You shouldn't just start a guy because he's there. Collins has proven he can move an NFL offense while Painter has proven he can't.

Bottom line is Collins has never been better than an average QB when he had his best seasons with systems that he knew inside and out. Ya he's played for 20 years, but 20 years of being either average or a bum.

It's not even so much that I want to see another QB in. It's that they signed fucking Kerry Collins. I had to deal with Kerry Collins for years with the Giants and I hated it. He's so average. And right now, he's not that much better than Curtis Painter and Painter at least knows the offense. He just sucks is all.

I guess the difference here is I think you are overrating Kerry Collins. I don't care what he did 10 years ago or 5 years ago or last year. He's 40, he's off the street, and he can't play. You think he's servicable, I don't think he's any better than what they had. Curtin Painter could have gone out there and took a million sacks, fumbled all over the place, and lost 40-3 or whatever it was. Collins is not a significant upgrade, this isn't 2002.
