The map is huge. There's a pic floating around of the in-game map superimposed on an actual map of Los Angeles, and it's pretty damn accurate.

I'm very happy with the large maps, but this isnt really a sandbox game, so your only really gonna briefly explore it, during a crime scene, running down a suspect, or during a shoot out, but who knows what happens after you finish the game, it seems kind of stupid after ranking up so much to go out and go on a killing spree. They did talk about collecting shields, and collecting landmarks, so its more like, killing pigeons or big jumps on GTA 4

So far, we know you can collect landmarks, shields, and special cars. There will also be random crimes that come over the radio that you can work on that have no bearing on the story.
 
Have to say I'm pretty impressed with the game so far. Story-wise it is really good. If you liked Dragnet, you'll love this. I won't spoil anything. Having fun playing. Not even through the first disc yet on 360 version and played about 4 hrs..
 
Is anyone getting this at midnight? I'm thinking of trying to change my pre-order to the store in my patrol district because it looks like they are having a midnight release.
