I don't think it's a violation unless they were enrolled at the time he contacted them, which is probably why Orgeron was said to be telling some recruits to hold off enrolling at UT this spring. Regardless, it seems unethical for him to go after recruits who are committed to UT.

I know O was allegedly "going after" UT recruits but nobody has really specified what he's done.

If some of the guys he recruited sent him a text message, "you're headed to SC?" and he responded with, "yes, you're invited - let me know," I wouldn't call that unethical.

And if some of the guys said they do want to go to USC then he did the right thing by telling them not to enroll in classes.

Either way, Kiffin is a liar and I'm sure he's contacted more than a handful of recruits to try and get them to go to SC with him.

However, if Orgeron is actively initiating contact and trying to persuade committed recruits to stay away from UT, then he's crossing the line IMO.

I understand it's a business, but if the recruit is initiating the contact, I'm not really bothered. I'm sympathetic to recruits who commit to a coach and want to reconsider their decision after a coaching change. However, I think it should be the player who initiates contact with other coaches not the other way around. If a recruit wants to follow the coaches, I'm sure he'll call them.

In general, I think it falls on both the shoulders of the recruits and coaches. Call me naive/old fashioned/whatever, but I don't think kids should commit to a school unless they are absolutely sure about their decision. Once they commit to a school, they should understand that their intention is to sign with said school and not look elsewhere (barring something like a coaching change). If you're not ready for that, simply don't commit. I don't like the idea of a kid committing to a school just to reserve a spot in the class and with the intentions of listening to other suitors.
