i dont think this is even remotely funny. its incredibly sad that a person can be at a college level and have to take a 3rd grade reading class. there are so many people to blame that idk where to start.

kudos to this guy for swallowing his pride and doing what he has to do. I hope one day we can read about this man getting his degree from LSU

He was not taking a 3rd grade class. He was using a new software program that was only available in elementary schools. So he was sitting in a 3rd grade class, working on his own curriculum. Perhaps VSN should offer this program to improve the overall reading comprehension of this site.

This reminds me of a story my boss told me the other day when he was a OCS recruiter for the Marine Corps. He had a kid who was a college junior at the University of Delaware approach him about becoming an officer and then proceeded to score a 16 on the ASVAB and show reading comprehension skills of a 7th grader. thats not really the problem. the problem is that these guys are going there to play football and being held to academic standards that are irrelevent to them. you wouldnt judge a medical student on his ability to run a 40. so why are we judging athletes on their ability to read and write?

in fact, why are we judging grown men at all? everyone goes to school for different reasons, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and none of these things mean a fucking thing to me as a fan of the sport. i just want to watch him play the game, thats where my interest in his personal life or his abilities ends.

No one's asking them to be rocket scientists. But there has to be a standard that is met. Most college athletes don't go pro. These guys will provide YOU the viewer with entertainment, and not receive a dime out of it since the college athlete isn't paid.

What happens when 4 years go by and he's not good enough to go pro and he still can't read?

If my doctor can't do some general geography like where's Canada or Mexico, you better believe that I care.

Kid didn't have the grades to get in at OSU, USC, or several other schools, AS A FOOTBALL PLAYER. I'm sorry, but when you don't have the grades to get in, as a football player, at Ohio State, USC, etc, you have problems.

Seantrel Henderson any better? Kid barely qualified to even meet the NCAA's ridiculously low standards. He barely got a 17 on it.

NCAA should really get rid of the student-athlete label and stop pretending academics are important at all. There's no defense for this kid getting into college other than pointing out that other schools do the same thing, which just shows how flawed and messed up the entire system is.

If we're going to call these kids student-athletes they should be held to the exact same standards as any other student.
