I think the biggest thing for people to remember is that Madden '13 was the first year for Connected Careers. The previous Online Franchise mode was broken and it was scrapped to build something more robust completely from scratch. It was not perfect last year but I think any rational person acknowledges that it was several steps in the right direction. This year, it might not be as many steps more in the right direction as we would like to see but it doesn't appear to have taken any steps back and is adding some new features.
I do believe that the guys working on Madden are very passionate about putting out a good game. That said, they do not have unlimited resources and time to put out the game each year. Most good games take about 2 years to develop and the Madden team gets half of that while developing for multiple consoles. This year, it's even more than usual because they still have the same team having to work on the PS3, 360, PS4 and Xbox One.
The community always wants more than can be delivered. I just want good gameplay and the ability to have an online league run smoothly. I believe we are going to see improvements in both of those areas through the Infinity 2.0 engine and the Connected Franchise enhancements.
