Every team in the NL West lost except for the Dodgers tonight. Kershaw threw a complete game shutout in Coors field (apparently, he's only the 21st pitcher to do that) on the same night that Giants got no-hit by Homer Bailey.

The Dodgers are now in a virtual tie for 3rd place with the San Diego Padres, two and a half games back from the Diamondbacks.

Harvey has been better.

Lower ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, WHIP, more strikeouts (in 8 less innings), and has allowed 37 less hits (76 - 113).

Harvey is allowing less baserunners, less runs, and is striking out more batters per 9 by a pretty wide margin. Wainwright is walking less batters, it's really the only area he's been better, but that's mitigated by the fact that nobody can get a hit off of Harvey, and Harvey only has 24 walks, so it's not like he's letting guys on, period.

Yes, many of the categories are close, but Harvey has been better to this point.

Harvey has been better.

Lower ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, WHIP, more strikeouts (in 8 less innings), and has allowed 37 less hits (76 - 113).

FIP and xFIP are nearly identical. .02-.03 is barely significant. The ERA and SIERA gaps are small enough, 2 tenths of a run, that you could see that gap closing with BABIP correction for either guy (both teams are awful defensively according to the metrics, but Harvey's opposing BABIP is 50 points lower).

Yes, Harvey is more of a strikeout pitcher than Wainwright, he strikes out 2 more per 9, and Wainwright is also walking 1 fewer batter per 9 and as a result has a far higher K/BB ratio.

Harvey has been slightly better in most categories, but the gap is so small in each one that he could be passed by Wainwright after any given outing. They've both been excellent in their own right, I think the gap is too close to discern who is "better" ... both are about as excellent as a pitcher can be right now.

While Harvey won't win the Cy Young b/c they're going to limit his innings in the 2nd half....for now, the best pitcher in the NL for two consecutive years is a Mets pitcher.
