The Washington Wizards must have known what they were going to get when they drafted JaVale McGee out of Nevada-Reno in the 2008 NBA Draft. It took a while for McGee to adjust to the NBA-game, but he's finally becoming the gem some scouts said he would be.

McGee is averaging 7.8 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds per game and 1.7 blocks per game. However, through McGee's previous seven games, he has stepped his numbers up to 14.4 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, and 2.4 blocks per game. During these past seven games, McGee has put down 20-point performances three times.

"McGee has that type of body that makes him tough to guard," spoke Wizards head coach Ed Tapscott. "Lanky, long arms. Now that he's looking for the ball and looking for shots, our offense is running more smoothly than ever."

McGee will have a true test to see how far his game has come along in Washington's next game against the Orlando Magic, who have the league's most dominant center, Dwight Howard.

"He's a big boy. My arms are like twigs next to his," joked McGee when asked about facing Dwight Howard. "I don't know though, I guess I'll have to keep him off the boards. You know, if that's possible."​
