NCAA 10 Designer Responds to Not Focussed on Gameplay Criticisms

Have to agree with ya CL - not looking good for 2010. I'm just hoping the flaws do not stand out that much - hope to gawd there is no interception glitch either.

If so - we'll be tweaking sliders like crazy.

Luckily I enjoyed 09. So I wouldn't mind having this tweaked version. One thing that's starting to get to me with the NCAA Franchise. Quit calling people out, you make yourself look like an idiot. Here is a guy who has the daunting task of providing game geeks with a realistic video game. That in itself is an oxymoron. A realistic reality using artificial intelligence. Now he wants to "squash" the talk?

Developers need to stay off the boards, using your free time to tweak the game would better suit the naysayers, instead of calling them out.

Well, Russ did say in the interview I did with him that the primary focus for them this year was to fix the gameplay flaws:

Speed
pursuit angles (they even had a blog on this)
Defensive coverages
lack of a pash rush

Those were our major beefs with the game and I asked direct questions about what they were doing to fix them....and he gave in-depth explanations

I think people are jumping the gun waaaaayyyy too early off of 15 minute hands-on previews.....most of sites sounds like they are reading from the same handbook

I'll wait until I get the game before judging it

the main thing that hurt 09 was lack of pass rush. I seen alot of people complain that if they tweeked the pass rush and kick and punt return than 09 would have been a great game. Well they have done that now plus added a few other things. Granted a few of the madden features like pro-tak and 9 man gang tackling isnt there and a few other things but imo 09 was a good start and if they can build on that 10 should be even better. thats all we can ask for

My main point was people are panicking based off of what a few media sites have said having played the game for only 15 to 20 minutes....and these guys aren't as hard core as us, nor do they look for the things that we do

Again, I haven't played the game, so I can't judge it either way...like you said, when I get the game then I'll be able to tell you the deal

As for the community leaders, last year we all said that NCAA 09 was a fun game but not without it's warts..... the defensive coverages, kick return game and pass rush was not up to snuff....that was something that was known a month or two in advance, and we expressed that

I'm really liking what I'm hearing about the passing game. More inaccurate passes in a logical direction. The A.I. will throw downfield more often. And non-catch catches. Players will go for the ball even when they will not catch it. If this is true, then it should cut down on the ridiculous amount of interceptions, the high completion percentages and make the passing game much more realistic. This will be fantastic if they can implement this and completely alter the experience in a good way.

Right now, if you had to ask me what NCAA 10 will be like, I think it will be essentially NCAA 09 with Create A School and some slight tweaks that have a very minimal impact on the way the game plays. (If you liked 09 you will like 10. If you didn't like 09 you probably wont like 10).

The tweaks to speed and pursuit angles alone make this part complete garbage.

Honestly though, I think this game will be okay, it won't be terrible like '09 but it won't be anything impressive, Madden is going to be the shit this year though.

As far as the "community leaders" 09 reporting I think it was (and prob still is a mixed bag). I felt like I got a pretty good idea of how the game was from you guys. However, I had to read CLOSELY and IN BETWEEN THE LINES. Many (that probably didn't follow the information as closely or read as tightly as I do) felt/feel the "community leaders" have/are lying to them about the game so they can stay in good graces with EA.

This is the problem when EA starts to release information, (Or any developer for that matter, just EA as an example). If you trash this game, EA trashes your credibility and you won't be back the following year for their show. When developers start releasing information it's like artist releasing singles. You'll get just enough to tweak your interest, but not enough to satisfy your hunger.

I dont know if its me in my old age or what. But, this years hype seems like, well there is none. But i have discovered its not even worth getting up and down anymore. Ill get it, and play it. Maybe ive been fooled too many times. But i did enjoy 09 at times. If they can fix some shit from that one, well then it might just be ok.
