University presidents and athletic administrators promised swift and serious action following its two-day NCAA retreat.

On Thursday, it delivered its first hammer.

Following up on the retreat's mandate to toughen academic standards, the NCAA Board of Directors voted to ban Division I teams with a four-year academic progress rate (APR) below 930 from participating in the postseason, including all NCAA tournaments and football bowl games.

I don't see them as being exploited. They are getting a free ride and a possible million dollar pro career for the school to make money off of them. :yawn:

Plus, jHight or nflman posted the dollar figures before..most of these athletic departments are losing money or barely breaking even to begin with.

I really don't feel sorry for some kid getting a free education and the school is making money off of him.

Such a load of bullshit. Only 1% of them ever end up making it to the NFL. The rest? Stuck with a broken down body and an empty degree, more or less.

And I realize most ADs lose money. That's not the issue. The issue is that the NCAA itself makes BILLIONS on tv revenue and the players don't see a dime.

And I'm not saying you have to sympathize with them, I'm just saying we should pay them more. If not, the NCAA should stop dictating whether or not they can sell their own belongings or decide to leave early.

Depends how much time they put in at the library?............ and I would think their tuition and taxes pay their professors salaries so yes.... they "worked" to pay their supervisors.

They're getting less than minimum wage when you count up all the time they commit to practices, meetings, lifting and class.

But, they should still be paid at least minimum wage. The NCAA is morally corrupt if it continues to say with a straight face that they run an amateur athletic organization. They are a for profit capitalist corporation and they need to enforce better labor practices before they make all these stupid rules.

My wife pays $600 a month in student loan debt. I'm sure she would have loved to have been "exploited" in college by playing a sport to not have that issue.....
