I could understand the move if the Knicks were on the verge of winning a championship and needed that one guy. However, Nash might have 2 good years left, but with this roster they're still not there. I don't mind Nash in NY because he is an upgrade from Lin, but you can't give up a potentially good player in Shumpert. Shumpert should be part of this teams' future.

Let me be perfectly clear; losing Shumpert in this deal would absolutely suck. Not only do you not have a viable 2 that you can rely on every night (fuck JR Smith's crazy ass), but you lose your best perimeter defender as well for a guy who gives you next to nothing defensively.

But that being said, the Knicks need to do something at PG and they need to do it now. Melo's in his prime. Chandler just came off a DPOY season. Who knows how long Amare is going to be able to keep going? The window to win is right now and the Knicks have to go for it. Future be damned.

You have three years. Tops.

Also, vast majority of Knick fans crying over losing Shump are the same ones who booed on Draft Night last year because they didn't know who the hell he was.

One of the biggest reasons for bringing Nash aboard is that, unlike Lin, he actually has the chops and the skins on the wall to be able to tune out Melo constantly calling for an Iso, run the plays that SHOULD be run, distribute the ball, and tell Melo "This shit isn't gonna fly"

Fourth quarter, late in the game, we need a bucket? Fine, play Hero Ball, Melo.

But otherwise, Nash would be the floor general. If not, then there's no reason to bring him here in the first place.

Yeah, it doesn't fit the type of offense Woodson wants to run. Woulda made a hell of a lot more sense if D'Antoni's punk ass were still around. But I don't think they're going to bring in Nash just to run ISO's to Melo 80%.

This team went a huge chunk of the season with no PG and that to me was a bigger issue than anything else during those early season struggles as well as when Lin's knee gave out.

It'd be foolish to put all the eggs into the Linsanity basket for this season. 1) We don't know if he can replicate that success again after such a small sample size 2) We don't know if his body, mainly his knee, is going to hold up over 82 games + whatever playoff games we have.

Plus, there's plenty the kid can learn from Nash regardless.

That's it Med, they haven't had a plan in forever. Well, check that. Their plan after Hurricane Fuckwad Isiah did his thing was to blow it all up and get under the cap to get LBJ or the next best thing. That turned into giving Amar'e a $100 million on an uninsurable contract. MSG still had a hard on so instead of maintaining flexibility and pieces, they screwed Donnie Walsh (the one guy who actually knew what he was doing) by going over his head to get Melo in February instead of waiting to sign him in July. The new team had zero chemistry and they were fucked en route to a Celtics sweep.

Next, throw a bunch of money at a defensive minded center in Tyson Chandler (who you have to love for his effort and toughness, nothing bad to say about him)...even though his presence and Melo's game screws $100M Amare and what he can do. They don't address the point guard spot besides signing broken down Baron Davis, luck into a short window where Jeremy Lin plays out of his mind (if he didn't, he would've been cut...again), allow Melo to dictate who the coach is (necessary in the NBA) and they are still nothing better than a 7 seed.

They are right where they were when Amare' first signed. There's no way they can compete with the top teams in the east in a long series. Melo is still the same player he's always been...he is not a team guy and although he can put them on his back at times, he can't do it every night.

So, instead of building a type of team that can have post-season success (team oriented, proud to play defense), they build around a group of players who cannot play together.

You see teams like Boston or Miami where they brought together stars under 1 coach. Stars who realized they had it special and to put all the bullshit aside so they could finally win. Go figure. Unless Carmelo ever "GETS IT", they'll be fortunate to ever win a single playoff series.

And even worse, like Ray said, they only have a short window. Amare's body may break down any minute, Chandler's health cannot be counted on either and possibly throw in 40-year old Nash so he can hand the ball to Melo who will do his iso garbage all game...if they lose Lin to Houston, they're back to a point where they have 1 body who can run the team at PG...but while no PG will ever run this team with youknowwho out there, maybe Nash can have a positive effect on him. That's their only hope...since if they end up trading Shumpert, the only person playing any D will be the guy in the paint.

Empire nailed it. Now I wanted Carmelo, but like Walsh, I was willing to play chicken with Denver and wait. Then Dolan stuck his nose in it, blew up Walsh's plan, forced him out and that's where we are today.

Plan? There is no plan with this franchise. Why? Compare our owner/front office to teams like the Spurs & Thunder and you see why. Knicks rarely think long-term, it's always build on the fly. Been that way since 1973. Knicks actually thought pairing Bob McAdoo and Spencer Haywood would win them a title.

Missing the point, Are we going to forget Melo stopped trying when he wasnt getting his touches during that win streak? Knicks did go on a tear until the made the playoffs and Melo kept taking fadeaway jumpers everytime the Heat double teamed him, if u were to bring in a Nash...ur either going to run with an offense that Melo Hates or turn Nash into another bystander while Melo plays 1 on 5. I mean what's the plan here? hope Melo is so star struck by Nash that he learns how to play off of the ball for the 1st time in his career?

What is the fukin Plan with this team? Donnie Walsh had a plan using D'antoni offense with Amare,felton, and some young inexpensive shooters n athletes, with enough cash to sign one more max guy. That plan got blown to bits in it's infancy and now we have a mismatched tandem of Melo and Amare, an all defense center, and Dolan n friends making the basketball decisions...

Knicks made an offer to Argentinian PG Pablo Prigioni out of Spain's league. He's 35-years old so not sure what the point would be other than to have as many capable points on the team, if necessary.
