This is America in 2014. Players don't have to be told to keep quiet, they already know the backlash that will follow if they comment negatively.

This is mostly true but there will always be a small amount of idiots that do say negative things and then you have to do things to redeem yourself like Chris Culliver has had to. I'm sure there will be at least one player that will say something stupid about this situation eventually and he'll get backlash for it.

America embraced a 5th rate QB in the pro's because he was an all American, college football great/Heisman winning, God fearing, well spoken kid with morals. He hardly played a lick and made the league millions in jersey sales.

if this Sam guy happens to be any good no one will care. No one or not enough to matter will buy his jersey. No parents will get their kids his Fathead for their wall. His only hope is be just good enough to play and in 4 years he'll be gone so he can publish his book about being gay in the NFL which no one will buy

Honestly dude, I know you and Warner and the like hate this ... but the gay and climate change fights are coming to an end. The war is over. Like tobacco, the masses have come to their senses. I don't care if my QB is gay, if he throws for 5,000 yards and wins the Super Bowl, aim for whatever hole you want. They want the right to marry. That's not special rights, that's equal rights. Our Govt. currently legislates lifestyle in most states, which by definition legislates oppression. I'm OK with religions defining morality and marriage for it's followers, but that should stay out of Govt. Whether someone believes in same sex marriage or not, the Fed Govt. should not allow legislating oppression. Our Govt should not be in the business of oppressing.

If he gets 12 sacks a year, no one will care who he has sex with. He just needs to be drafted by a strong organization with a good locker room. If that happens, and he produces, this quickly dies down. And it's only a matter of time before the flood gates open and more and more players come out, making this a non-story.

I think Green Bay would be a good place for him going by your post. Small town away from the major media. Strong leadership from GM down through the coaching staff, with a good locker room.
