All of that is understandable except the 78% of them going broke. How the fuck do you go broke as an NFL athlete? Unless you play for one or two years and only make like a million dollars, you are going to be practically set for life.

The average NFL player only plays for about three years and makes a little under a million a year. That doesn't figure in agent fees.

3 million is about what a middle class family would make if they worked for 44 years. Thats not a lot of money.

There's a rumor going around that a major D1 program is about to get hammered for NCAA violations in the next couple of weeks, and that its not one you would expect... it comes from the very same Buckeye insider that broke the tatgate story.

Less than 24 hours after he was released, Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk looks set to sign a new five year contract, according to a report from Lance Allan at WTMJ Milwaukee. Hawk was released due to the fact that his old contract would have paid him in excess of $10 million for the 2011 season, but there was rampant speculation that Hawk would return to the team. That speculation appears to have been proven true, and Hawk is set to fly to Green Bay to ink his new contract on Thursday.

Terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed, but Hawk's salary should be well south of the $10 million he was set to earn under his old contract. Though Hawk played in all 16 of Green Bay's games last season, starting 15 of them, the level of competition for a starting job he was set to face in training camp meant that his value to the team was nowhere near what the final year of his rookie contract paid him.

Former Raiders draft bust JaMarcus Russell is facing foreclosure on his $2.4 million Bay Area mansion.
Russell owes nearly $200,000 in back mortgage payments. If he doesn't come up with the cash by June, his house will go up on the auction block. Russell earned roughly $32 million in his three years with the Raiders, but it's no surprise that he's now strapped considering his epically poor discipline and decision-making. This certainly certainly doesn't give the impression that Russell is on the right track for a comeback.
