NFL: THE SHOW | GM D.GEEZY'S CINCINNATI BENGALS FRANCHISE

Prologue

In the midst of one of the most futile stretches in NFL history, the Cincinnati Bengals have had a mind-blowing one winning season over the past 18 years. Ever since the death of owner Paul Brown in 1991 the team has been under the watch of his beneficiary son, Mike Brown, who has overseen the entire stretch of mediocrity. Loyal fans and followers of the team have loathed Mike Brown's reluctance to fire his brothers, Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Pete Brown and Vice President of Player Personnel Paul Brown Jr., from the top of his team's football hierarchy to show an effort in turning things around. Under Mike Brown's ownership, the Bengals remain one of the only teams in the NFL without a General Manager and the only team without a full-time scouting department.

Franchise Rule Book

CIN4.gif
Mission Statement

The purpose of NFL: The Show first and foremost is simply to have fun while replicating as closely as possible the real-life NFL. A big part of what makes the National Football League great is not just the games themselves, but everything surrounding them; Things such as the week-to-week build up and hype before games, the drama of the off-season, and the intrigue of the NFL draft. This franchise is going to place a deep emphasis on the day to day management of an NFL franchise, particularly during the off-season in relation to free agent signings and the NFL draft. This franchise page will attempt to replicate the greatness of all of the "other things" that makes the NFL special.

Due to many reasons (family and work obligations being the biggest) this franchise may move at a pace many are not accustomed to so don't expect seasons to be churned out rapidly. Getting in five, maybe six seasons between now and April 2010 is the goal.

Game reports will be detailed however preseason game reports will be scaled back to some degree. Nevertheless, the preseason will receive strong attention due to the heavy ramifications of preseason games in regards to the rules that are detailed below and how each game will really matter.

Each rule has been created with the goal in mind of keeping things realistic. While many of the rules don't have a direct parallel to a real life NFL rule, each rule is designed to give replicated real-life results.

So without further ado, welcome to NFL: The Show and I hope you enjoy the journey.

Preseason Player Transaction Rules

- 55 man roster can be carried starting with the beginning of the free agency signing period and going into the start of the NFL preseason.

- Must cut down to 53 players after preseason game #3

- Must cut down to 47 players +1 Emergency Quarterback after preseason game #4

- Free agents can be signed at will without penalty who are either a.) rated lower than the lowest rated player on the Bengals' active roster at their respective position at the end of the off-season free agent signing period or b.) were on the Bengals active roster at some point during the current season. Two days must be skipped at the start of following season's free agency period for every player that is signed that has the same or a higher rating than a player on the Bengals depth chart at their respective position at any point between the start of the preseason and the end of the current season's Pro Bowl.

- All free agents signed during this time period must be signed to a one-year contract.

CIN4.gif
Regular Season Player Transaction Rules

- A 48 man active roster maximum (includes one designated emergency QB) will be used to emulate a real life active gameday roster (The actual real life gameday roster is 46 but two extra spots are given due to Madden's roster limits at Guard and Tackle both being four, which is unrealistic). Cap implications are of no concern since th extra cap room this possibly may create will be necessary to have in order to manage the ever-changing bottom of the roster, which will now more closely replicate real life. Other rules are in place that will prevent the team from being stacked with top players in an unrealistic fashion.

- The emergency QB can enter the game for any reason however once he enters the game, neither the #1 or #2 quarterback is permitted to re-enter the game. This rule precisely replicates the real-life emergency QB rule.
- The 48 man active roster maximum is also a minimum.

- A new player may be signed, in accordance to the below signings rule, from the free agency pool for every multiple-week injury that occurs which results in a player being placed on the Inactive List or on the Injured Reserve List. Once the player(s) comes back from injury and is removed from the Inactive List, someone must be cut to maintain the 48 man active roster maximum.

CIN4.gif
Off-Season Player Transaction Rules

- Only three players' whose contracts have expired and/or are due an extension can be re-signed or extended prior to the free agency signing period per League Year*. Every player that is re-signed or extended must have a contract that pays them the average of the top 10 highest paid players at their respective position; Otherwise, one free agency day must be skipped at the beginning of the unrestricted free agent signing period for each one that does not get a top 10 contract.

- The franchise tag may be used on one of the three re-sign-able players in lieu of signing them to a long-term contract however the tag cannot be used twice on the same player.

- The free agency signing period is the only time that the team can sign a player from another team that would represent an upgrade to the active roster at a specific position (based on overall rating). Once this signing period ends, in-season free agency rules begin with one caveat; Any Bengals' unrestricted free agent from the previous season can be signed any time team between the draft and the first preseason game. After the first preseason game, this caveat to the in-season free agency rules ceases.

- A maximum of two players can be cut between the end of the regular season all the way through the end of the free agent signing period (unless more is necessary in order to get under the salary cap or in the case of a player being replaced by a draft pick). This should eliminate the opportunity to unfairly upgrade the depth chart in a fashion that the CPU is not capable of doing. Every team has weaknesses and this should ensure the Bengals will always have some.

- Once the free agency signing period begins, only one offer can be made per free agency day. In addition to this, one free agency day must be skipped for every player that gets signed to the Bengals active roster, this includes Bengals' free agents.

- There are no rules regarding who can and cannot be signed. However a strong emphasis will be placed on keeping things as realistic as possible with the thought in mind that Cincinnati typically isn't a prime free agent destination in real life.

CIN4.gif
Trade Rules

- A maximum of two trades per League Year* is allowed. This includes trades involving only draft picks. Only one trade will be allowed in this franchise's first league year (which in relation to real life, is already in progress).

- If one or both allotted trades are not used in a given League Year, they may roll over to the following season however the rolled-over trade(s) can only be used in a trade involving only draft picks.

- Trades involving only draft picks must at least conform with this NFL trade value chart: http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

- Any "draft pick only" trade that does not conform with the above chart must result in a trade favoring the CPU (based on said chart).

- There are no strict rules on trade terms involving players but like free agent signings, a strong emphasis will be placed on keeping things as realistic as possible.

Cincinnati Bengals History

Cincinnati Pro Football History

In 1937, a team known as the Cincinnati Bengals was formed as a member of the American Football League. The 1937 Bengals finished with a 2-4-2 record in their first year, but the AFL folded after the season. The Bengals continued as an independent team in 1938, and in 1939 joined a new AFL, finishing in second place with a 6-2 record. But again, the league folded after the season.

Once again in 1940, another new AFL emerged, and again the Bengals joined. But that AFL suffered the fate of the two AFLs before it, folding after the 1941 season as the United States entered World War II, and the Bengals folded along with it.

Pro football returned to Cincinnati 26 years later in 1967 when Paul Brown headed an ownership group that landed an expansion franchise in the modern-era American Football League. Brown, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who founded and coached the Cleveland Browns from 1946-62, picked the name Bengals for the new team "to give it a link with past professional football in Cincinnati."

History

Paul Brown Stadium, the new home of the Cincinnati Bengals NFL team, opened in August 2000. The stadium project on Cincinnati's river front employed as many as 1,000 workers daily during construction up until June 2000 when the Bengals' coaches and staff moved into their new 65,600-seat stadium. In just under two years, the 40-acre site was transformed into the Bengals' third home since the team's inception in 1968. One of the project's claims to fame is that it was one of the safest of its kind. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the number of job-site injuries and illnesses incurred during construction of the stadium was significantly lower than the national median average for such projects.

CIN4.gif
Stadium Name

The new stadium honors the late Paul Brown, the pro football Hall of Famer who brought pro football to Cincinnati in 1968 as Bengals founder, general manager and head coach.

CIN4.gif
Stadium Site

The stadium site is approximately five blocks west of the current Cinergy Field. Pete Rose Way borders it on the north, Mehring Way on the south, Elm Street on the east and Central Avenue on the west. The southern border of the stadium will be one block from the Ohio River, and will be connected to the riverfront with a public park.

CIN4.gif
Stadium Design

The stadium's asymmetrical, open-ended design offers views of the downtown skyline and the riverfront. In addition, almost 70% of the seats are along the sidelines providing close-to-the-action sight lines – even from upper-level luxury boxes and low-tiered end zones.

There are 70,000 seats over three levels at the sidelines, with 100 luxury boxes stacked in two tiers. All luxury suites and 7,500 club seats are planned for the sidelines.

Moody/Nolan was the associate architect and engineer working with NBBJ Sports & Entertainment. Moody/Nolan's work involved designing all concession facilities, club seats, suite areas and NFL offices, as well as civil engineering of the site.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach & Coordinators

Lewis_Marvin.jpg

CIN4.gif
Head Coach - Marvin Lewis

Bio: Born September 23, 1958, McDonald, Pennsylvania. Marvin Lewis is in his seventh season as Bengals head coach, one year from tying Paul Brown and Sam Wyche for the franchise’s longest tenure of eight seasons. In Bengals head coaching victories, he also ranks third (behind Wyche and Brown). Lewis enters 2009 tied for fifth in the NFL for current consecutive seasons as a head coach (seven). The only coaches with longer active streaks are Jeff Fisher (15, all with Titans/Oilers), Andy Reid (11 with Philadelphia), Bill Belichick (10 with New England) and John Fox (eight with Carolina). Sharing fifth place with Lewis is Jacksonville’s Jack Del Rio.

Lewis became the ninth coach in Bengals history on January 14, 2003, when he was hired to replace Dick LeBeau, who was fired after the worst season in franchise history. Going into the 2009 season, Lewis has compiled a 46–49–1 regular season record with the Bengals. Lewis beat both Tom Coughlin and Mike Mularkey for the position with the Bengals. He had previously interviewed for head coaching positions with the Buffalo Bills, the Carolina Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was never offered a job. Lewis had previously turned down head coaching opportunities with Cal and Michigan State to continue pursuing his goal of becoming a head coach in the NFL.

The Bengals finished 8–8 in each of their first two seasons under Lewis, recording a non-losing season for the first time in seven years. In 2005, Cincinnati recorded an 11-5 record, winning the AFC North division and making the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. Despite setting multiple franchise records in the regular season, however, the Bengals lost to the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-17, in the wild card round, after starting QB Carson Palmer went down with a knee injury on the second play of the game.

In addition to playing quarterback and safety at Fort Cherry (Pa.) High School, Lewis wrestled and played baseball. He was a three-time All-Big Sky Conference linebacker at Idaho State University but was not drafted out of college and never played in the NFL.

Bengals | Team hires Saints' front office man D.Geezy as GM
Fri, 7 Aug 2009 7:11:49 -0700
Adam Shefter of ESPN.com reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have hired Saints front office man D. Geezy to serve as the team's General Manager/Executive Vice President of Player Personnel. The move is expected to be formally announced early next week, just days prior to the Bengals-Saints preseason game on Friday, August 14th. Geezy has spent the past 4 seasons working for the New Orleans Saints in a salary cap related role after spending time with the Houston Texans' player personnel department and also coaching in the collegiate ranks prior to that. According the Shefter, sources close to Bengals owner Mike Brown indicate that an interview between Geezy and Brown took place last month in the weeks leading up to the preseason match-up between the two teams, and the opportunity arose following the recommendation of current Saints GM Mickey Loomis to interview Geezy. The New Orleans native is expected to replace Brown's brother, Pete, as the lead man on the Bengals' football operations staff.

I am so looking forward this. It's obvious you've put a lot into this so far.

Nice shit, damn you had alot of update on the first page =] good job with this.

Wow...amazing so far.

I'm definitely following.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I started working on this thing in early June, constantly updating it in my spare time. I was going to wait until the game's release to post it but decided to have a little fun before hand as far as giving some "back story" before the preseason begins.
