Overall a very nice season. I was surprised to see Palmer go to the pro bowl I thought he had a fair number of interceptions. A lot of this playoff run is going to be on his shoulders, we all know Spiller is a beast but Palmer needs to cut down on the turnovers. It was nice to see Mays have a strong sophomore season. Indy in the first round is going to be tough. That is an explosive offense they have. I think the defense will step up. I think Bengals pull it out 31-27...you heard it here first haha. Good luck man looking forward to the update!

Yeah no matter what Spiller did, he could never get past Brady on the MVP watch list. Oh well, maybe next year.

I think Palmer made it because he was like #3 in the conference in passing yards and like #4 in TDs. I guess that outweighed the INTs but you're right, still surprising.

It is going to come down to not making mistakes. We have to cut out the turnovers and also figure out a way to stop the bleeding when the CPU goes on one of those big scoring runs. I actually don't want this thing to turn into a shootout.

I've had enough with the fourth quarter meltdowns this year. Palmer (I) needs to be more careful with his throws and not force anything. We cannot afford a multiple interception game, especially against an opponent like this because they'll make you pay.

I need to establish the run and not let Freeney and Mathis take over the game and tee off on Palmer.

Kinda surprising that Palmer is in the Pro Bowl with all those INTs on his stat line. Have to cut down on the turnovers to win in the playoffs. Good luck!!

Colts QB Peyton Manning finds WR Reggie Wayne wide open on a fly pattern in which the veteran wide out took 86 yards for the game-winning touchdown, making the score 41-38 with just 0:14 to play. The former Miami Hurricane beat the jam of Bengals CB Leon Hall on the play and finished the game with 8 receptions for a game-high 205 yards and 2 touchdowns.​

The Cincinnati Bengals nearly pulled off a mild-upset but in the end were defeated by the visiting Indianapolis Colts 41-38 Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium on Wildcard Weekend. Bengals QB Carson Palmer found WR Chad Ochocinco for what was thought to be a game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass that made the score 38-34 with just 0:35 remaining. However Colts QB Peyton Manning had other plans.

Facing a 2nd and 13 following a sack on their previous play, Manning found WR Reggie Wayne wide open after beating CB Leon Hall's jam cleanly and the former Miami Hurricane raced 86 yards for the game-winner, making the score 41-38 with just 0:14 remaining. Wayne finished the game with 8 receptions for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. Manning was also his usual self, going 21 of 30 for 343 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"No excuses from me. We've had problems in that situation all year with allowing big plays during crunch time," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"First of all, I am disappointed that we didn't provide safety help over the top in that situation. Secondly, if we're going to play that way, we need our corners to be able to do a better job jamming at the line of scrimmage. The strategy worked on the previous play and we got a sack from it from Michael Johnson. We got greedy though and it cost us. We played too hard to allow a breakdown like that decide things."

Cincinnati's offense played a near-flawless game. Palmer finished 22 of 26 for 339 yards and 1 touchdown while Ochocinco had his best performance of this season, hauling in 10 receptions for 185 yards and the previously mentioned score. The team also got good production from the running game, gaining 151 rushing yards on the day as a team. RB C.J. Spiller led all rushers with 78 yards, including a 31 yard second quarter touchdown run, and he also contributed 8 receptions for 111 yards.

The day was not perfect for the NFL's #1 ranked offense however. FB Jacob Hester's fumble early in the game was returned 56 yards for a touchdown by Colts DE Robert Mathis and made the score 7-3 in the Colts' favor. Later in the first half, just before halftime, Ochocinco caught a 15-yard pass and was drilled by Colts SS Bob Sanders and fumbled. The ball was scooped up by Colts rookie first round pick CB Anthony West, and the turnover resulted in a field goal by PK Adam Vinatieri which increased Indianapolis' halftime lead to 24-13.

The Colts had no turnovers and also were not penalized during the game. Meanwhile, Cincinnati was penalized 5 times, including a back-breaking roughing the passer call on FS Taylor Mays midway through the third quarter on third down which led to a touchdown pass from Manning to Wayne that made the score 31-20.

""We came into this game knowing that we had to win the turnover battle and keep penalties to a minimal and that did not come to fruition," said Martz.

"Credit their guys for playing good, solid football on offense and doing what they needed to do to win. It's the little things that can get you beat in this league and we did not do a good job of being sound in those areas today, and really when you look at it, throughout most of the latter part of the season."

Cincinnati finishes the 2011 season with a 10-7 record.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have fired defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. Crennel, hired in 2010 by Bengals head coach Mike Martz, has seen his defenses rank near the bottom of the league in each of his two seasons in Cincinnati. Late game collapses, including a blown coverage in the team's 41-38 last second playoff loss to Indianapolis, helped contribute to Crennel's demise. Martz and Bengals G.M. D.Geezy are giving strong consideration to going to a 4-3/cover-2 type scheme according to sources close to the team. The Bengals ranked 31st in the NFL in total defense and 32nd in points allowed in 2011.

I want to go back to the 4-3 so the first thing I need to find is a DT to line up alonside Domata Peko. Secondly, I'd like to get better in the interior line.

The focus of this off-season we'll be doing things to make us better "finishers." We didn't do a good job of closing out games on both sides of the ball and that needs to change for next season.

We have some tough decisions to make on some key players this off-season.

Plain and simple, I blitzed at the wrong moment. I (Crennell, haha) should have been in prevent.

There actually aren't a ton of holes on that side of the ball. Most of the improvement needs to come from a scheme standpoint. Sure we'll add some complimentary players here and there, but I don't expect to make any big splashes defensively.

The players are there, they just need to be put in better position to succeed.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have hired former Bills defensive coordinator Jerry Gray to serve as their new defensive coordinator. Gray, who has spent the past six season with the Redskins as their secondary coach, takes the place of recently fired defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. The former All-Pro defensive back is expected to implement a 4-3/cover-2 based scheme in Cincinnati. Gray led the NFL's #2 ranked defense in 2003 & 2004 with the Bills and has led one of the top pass defenses in the NFL over the past several years in Washington. Prior to joining the Bills in 2001, Gray spent the previous four seasons as an assistant at the Tennessee Titans, including the last two as defensive backs coach. He helped Tennessee finish as the NFL’s No. 1 ranked pass defense and total defense in 2000 and also guided two All-Pro starters at each position in the Titans secondary. "Jerry is a guy that comes in with skins on the wall and we wanted to focus on getting a guy that specializes in defensive backfield schemes," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Cincinnati Bengals CB Leon Hall (83) is not happy about the pace of contract negotiations with the team and is expected to test the free agent market this off-season. Hall, who has been to the Pro Bowl each of the past 3 seasons, is reportedly seeking a contract that will make him one of the top 5 highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL. "I played my way through my rookie contract as a sign of respect for the deal I signed and this is how they re-pay me? I don't understand this team," said Hall. Hall caught a team-high 5 interceptions last season but his penchant for gambling on interceptions caused him to get beat several times on long plays, including an 86-yard touchdown given up to WR Reggie Wayne in the team's AFC Wildcard Playoff loss to the Colts earlier this month.

Our pro scouting staff has completed it's evaluation of last year's film. Per your request to be notified, please find below the new scouting grades of each of our returning players and pending unrestricted free agents. I have put an asterisk next to every player whose contract is up for renewal and will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. I have also bolded any player who was a starter in 2011.

We have approximately $19.7 million in salary cap space at the moment so in order to have enough money to sign free agents and all of our draft picks, we'll have to make some moves to clear some space, whether it is through re-negotiating contracts, trading, or releasing players.
