Bengals | OG Williams returns to Cincy

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed former Bengal offensive guard Bobbie Williams (70) to a two-year contract near the veteran minimal. Williams, who played with the Bengals from 2004 through 2010, was not re-signed following the expiration of his contract after the 2010 season and spent last season with the Cowboys, starting all 16 games. Williams will likely compete for the Bengals' starting right guard spot as the team looks to have elected to not re-sign last year's starter, Andrew Whitworth (73).

ESPN's Adam Shefter reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed versatile DT Keyunta Dawson (72) to a 5-year $14.5 million contract. Dawson, who spent last season with the Chiefs after spending the first 3 years of his career with the Colts, will compete for playing time at both defensive end and defensive tackle. "At 6-3 255 pounds, Keyunta is considered a bit of a tweener but we think we can develop him into a solid pass rushing specialist," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. The Bengals are very familiar with Dawson's speed (74) as the defensive lineman returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown against the Bengals in a loss to the Chiefs last season.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have moved Vernon Gholston from outside linebacker to left defensive end as they shift from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. Gholston, 6-3 266 pounds, had 36 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 1 interception last season. "Vernon projects well as a defensive end in our new scheme and our scouts have rated him as an 89 at the position," said new Bengals defensive coordinator Jerry Gray.

Bengals | DE Edwards moved to defensive tackle

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have moved Dwan Edwards from his 5-technique defensive end position to the 3-technique defensive tackle position as they shift from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. At 6-3 319 pounds, Edwards is a much better fit as a run-stuffer in the team's new defensive alignment under new defensive coordinator Jerry Gray. "Dwan grades as a 79 overall when projecting him to defensive tackle and he has a very good shot at earning a starting spot along side Domata Peko (86)," said Gray.

I think I remember talking with you once about Madden and how it was hard to stomach seeing guys who are established on other NFL teams in real life playing for different games in the 'chise. In my case, I hate seeing the Peyton Mannings of the world becoming easy budget cuts for the CPU and playing for, say, the 49ers.

Yeah it is always funny trying to add a realistic flare to a quote while giving the reader the video game info he wants. Fun stuff for sure.

Good question in the second paragraph. It has not been as difficult to accept as I thought. I think that it is important to play the game at a slow pace for this not to become an issue. If you slowly build your team and begin to "relate" to your team as it comes up, it helps a ton.

I definitely would not be able to tolerate something like Peyton on the Niners though. If there is one regret I have with my chise, it is not controlling all 32 teams. Having guys like Seymour on the Patriots and Chambers on the Chargers bugs the hell out of me.

Intetior offensive line, cornerback, defensive line depth, and maybe a third running back. Who and when I get them is all going to depend on who is the best available when I pick.

I am so looking forward to seeing Spiller and LJ on the field together. I think we're about to see a movement to more of a ball control offense which will only help the defense.

As for the switch from 3-4 to 4-3, I just decided that it was time for a change. I was getting gashed at times in the running game and I just didn't like the "feel" of the pass rush out of the 3-4.

Former Tiger to come in and compete for playing time, possibly replace Leon Hall | Geezy: Peterson was the best player available​

With their first round pick on day 1 of the NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals picked LSU Tigers CB Patrick Peterson. Peterson, who is 6-1 205 pounds and runs a 4.43 40, will compete for playing time with the team's three other cornerbacks, Joe Haden (89), Zackary Bowman (78), and Javier Arenas (77). The team hopes that Peterson can replace CB Leon Hall (83), a starter last season who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in the off-season.

"Patrick was extremely high on our board," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy.

"While he isn't flashy or does not have the amazing 4.2 speed that some of the other corners have, we feel like he is one of the best technique corners in the game and will develop into a very good corner in our league. He fits the mold of a cover-2 corner and that's fits defensive coordinator Jerry Gray's scheme quite well. He can also line up and shut down opposing receivers in man-to-man."

AFTER TRADE DOWN, BENGALS PICK PENN STATE RB GREEN

Versatile running back provides Martz with another toy in his new-look backfield, will compete for playing time as a return man | Team trades from pick 53 to pick 56 with Green Bay in exchange for C T-Bob Hebert​

The Cincinnati Bengals traded their second round pick (53rd overall), to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for the Packers' second round pick (56th overall) and second year center T-Bob Hebert (70). With the 56th pick, the Bengals selected Penn State RB Stephfon Green. Green, 5-10 193 pounds, runs a blazing 4.34 40 and is an electrifying return man who also has great receiving skills out of the backfield.

"Stephfon actually reminds us a ton of C.J. Spiller," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy.

"Yes we do have an excellent stable of backs but I thought where we were lacking is not having enough of the quick, change of pace type guys. We have C.J. and then a bunch of power runners in Larry Johnson (87) and fullbacks Jacob Hester (84) and Anthony Elzy (82). We needed another speed back that can also catch passes out of the backfield. Stephfon looks like a receiver on film when put in that situation.

"We'll probably carry five backs this year."

Hebert, 6-3 285 pounds, was selected in the 4th round of last year's draft by the Packers and was stuck on the bench behind Packers C Scott Wells (80). The former LSU Tiger is expected to compete to be the starter for the Bengals at center.

"Green Bay offered us a 5th round pick to move up 3 spots to our selection and we decided that there was not enough value there to warrant a move down and miss out on our guy," said Geezy.

"We needed interior line help out of this draft so we had to make a quick decision and a counter proposal which included T-Bob. We had a high grade on him in last year's draft so we decided to make the move. Our scouts had a third round grade on him in 2011 so we think we got a major coup."

"Cincinnati was the last team I thought would pick me just because of their already great running back situation. I got a call from the head coach Mike Martz and also talked to the G.M. D.Geezy on draft day and they both said that I was the highest rated player left on their board and they could not pass. They said I would have a significant role on the team next year simply because they plan to be more balanced and they also said I would have a shot in the return game."
